Indian MPVs Listed According To Their NCAP Safety Ratings

Next to SUVs, MPVs are the best-selling vehicle category in the Indian automotive market. Why not, have a big family? Definitely, you’d be looking for a 6 or a 7 seater vehicle. These vehicles offer the perfect blend of versatility with go-anywhere character (Provided they have a powerful engine). With the increasing traffic on the road, one has to rely on their vehicle for the safety of everyone. So, here are 7 such MPVs with their crash test rating.

  1. Renault Triber 4-Star

The most affordable MPV in the country is indeed the Renault Tribe. This MPV is built in India for India. Although the Renault Triber is based on its smaller sibling Renault Kwid it scored an impressive 4-star rating in the Global NCAP. The Triber that was tested at the Global NCAP facility came with dual airbags with various driver aid functions like ABS and EBD.

  2. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 3-star Global NCAP

Coming to the next segment, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the weapon of choice for many. LUV is what Maruti Suzuki likes to call the segment. The MPV get a ton of features on the inside and outside. Sadly, the recent BS6 Ertiga only gets a petrol engine. Well, one of the important point to know before buying one is that it scored 3 stars in the Global NCAP crash test for Adult Occupancy.

Also, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga again scored 3 stars for child occupancy. Besides, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga comes with all the basic safety kit including dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Engine immobilizer and more.

  3. Maruti Suzuki XL-6 3-star (Global NCAP) (Assumption)

Another vehicle that might get a 3-star crash test rating is the Maruti Suzuki XL6. You may ask why we have this car on the list when Ertiga was already mentioned? Well, both of the cards are based on the same platform. However, on the outside, there are a fair about of changes making the car distinctive from each other. Also, the car has not been tested yet. We assume the Maruti Suzuki XL6 to get the same rating as the Ertiga.

Considering safety features the XL6 comes equipped with all the standard safety features. Alongside, the automatic variant also gets ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) with a hill-hold feature as standard. ISO FIX child seat anchors for the second row of seats also are a boon to mount the child seats.

  4. Mahindra Marazzo 4-star Global NCAP

One of the safest MPVs or rather a vehicle in a particular price bracket is the Mahindra Marazzo. Nowadays people look more of aesthetics and at times it ends up buying a car that costs a lot more and gets only 3 stars. This is why Mahindra Marazzo with a 4-star global crash test rating gets this crown.

You should know that this MPV gets a latter on frame chassis making it one of the comfortable vehicles in the segment. This safety rating is possible as this adaptable MPV gets most of the safety features as standard. With that, it also features, ABS+EBD with BA, speed-sensitive auto door lock and Dual front airbags.

It has been around a decade that the Mahindra XUV 500 is running on the domestic roads. It’ll be a surprise knowing that it also is exported into the international markets. So, it is evident that the MPV is well built and get a respectable 4-star crash test rating in ANCAP. We assume the SUV to have the same crash test rating as the one sold overseas.

Because of the new BNVSAP norms, XUV 500 comes with dual front airbags, ABS+EBD and more. Because the XUV500 has a monocoque chassis it is stable on roads on high speeds also has contained body roll around corners. This also works in the favour of the vehicle’s safety.

  6. Toyota Innova 5-Star ASEAN NCAP

The king of the people’s commuter is the Toyota Innova. Thinking of taking the whole family on a long road trip in comfort, this is the MPV that comes to our mind (If it likes in the budget). Well, Toyota is proud to have the Innova in the Indian market and boasts of a 5-Star rating in the ASEAN NCAP.

Assuming that the 2020 facelift of the Toyota Innova in India might also get the same crash test rating. Be it the top variant or the base, Innova comes with dual front airbags, ABS+EBD, child seat anchors for the 2nd row of seats as standard.

  7. Kia Carnival 5-Star ANCAP

All know that Kia for one got everything right at the time of launch of the Seltos but with time failed to keep their reputation intact. So, we are a bit sceptical whether the Kia Carnival sold in the Indian market will get the same rating as the one tested in the ANCAP.

But for reference, the Carnival scored a brilliant 5-star rating in the ANCAP crash test. At its price, the MPV gets all the bells and whistles like multiple airbags and driver electronics and more.
