Tata May Not Launch BS6 Variants of its JTPs; JV Unlikely to Continue

Tata has a lot of joint ventures across the country in various fields. One of those is with a Coimbatore based tuner named Jayem Auto. They formed a joint venture in 2017 and worked on namely two cars, Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP.

Called the JTSVO (Jayem Tata Special Vehicle Operations) the main goal of this venture is to release cars with factory turbocharger and some minor facelifts from the normal options. These were highly sought out by turbo enthusiast and usually were sold at a small amount of dealership adding a sense of exclusiveness.

Bleak Future For The Joint Venture

However, with the new BS6 norms right around the corner, the Joint Venture is expected to not continue. Reports suggest that dealers have been told to not sell JTP cars anymore and also confirm that they haven’t seen any new stocks of the car.

Possible Reason For Breaking Of The Venture

The reason for is not the issue with the selling of the car but the fact that the new BS6 norms might make the cars costlier and less profitable for Tata as they already have to invest in new cleaner engines and after it gets tuned and a turbo added by Jayem Auto they have to pay them a royalty for it.

No New BS6 JTP?

This currently seems to be the case as Tata has started releasing newer BS6 engines which are more powerful. There are also rumours of Tata Altroz of getting a stock fitted turbo petrol engine. If that is true Tata may not need Jayem Auto to help them with the engines thus cutting down on costs.

What About The Current JTP Owners

The current owners of JTP cars need not worry as Tata has said they will continue to support already sold JTP cars and will not deny services to them.
