Much recently Indian rideshare giant Ola has officially launched its self-drive car-sharing service called OLA Drive. The service has been initially rolled out in Bengaluru. Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi will follow soon.
Ola Drive Self Driving Car Sharing Service
- Ola’s self-drive service will allow for customisation of packages where a user can control everything from hours, kilometres to fuel inclusion.
- All Ola drive cars will come equipped with Ola’s in-car entertainment Ola Play with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS, media playback and Bluetooth connectivity.
- A user can also access Ola’s 24×7 safety portal emergency button with real-time vehicle tracking and roadside assistance.
- Commenting on this new venture, Arun Srinivas, Ola’s Chief Sales and Marketing Officer said “We are very excited to launch the Ola Drive category to consumers, a big step towards building a holistic shared mobility landscape in India. India’s car-sharing market has immense potential and opportunity, which is yet to see a large-scale investment in technology and operations to make the model viable”.
- In the first sequence of its launch, the service will be offered as a short-term self-driving car scheme. However, Ola hs plan to migrate this into a long-term subscription-based service.
- The Ola self-drive service is only activated in Bengaluru as of now. A user can pick-up the car from pick-up stations conveniently placed by Ola across residential and commercial hot spots.
- Using the Ola app, a user can choose a car of his/her choice for as little as 2 hours to 3 months by paying a security deposit starting at ₹2,000
- Ola plans to deploy a fleet of 20,000 cars by the year 2020.
