Renault has finally entered into the subcompact SUV segment with their ‘Kiger’. Today, the French carmaker globally revealed the Renault Kiger in India. In case you are not aware, this SUV sits just under 4 meters making it the part of *THE* hottest segment in our country.
Also, the Renault Kiger is an SUV that is majorly designed and manufactured here in India for India. In conjunction, the French carmaker also plans to export the SUV to many international markets from India, after the launch in our markets.
Renault Kiger is essentially the Nissan Magnite’s sibling as both share the same CMF-A+ platform. Meaning, the vehicle may have nearly identical vehicle dynamics. So, let’s have a look what exactly the new Renault Kiger is offering.
A Typical French Design
We saw the concept of the Renault Kiger last year and based on that we somewhat had an idea of what the vehicle will behold. This also includes having a decent road presence. That said, expecting all of that didn’t go in vain as Renault Kiger in its production avatar does look sophisticated and a little bit mean. Moving to the details the Renault Kiger offers:
- A futuristic look where the DRLs replace the position of the headlights. And the headlamps sit lower down in the bumper.
- Also, Renault says that the Kiger is feature-packed. Proving the claim to be true, the Kiger gets all-LED headlights with unique 3 pod design.
- Additionally, a sculpted hood with large and flared wheel arches add the right amount of muscle to this SUV.
- The all-LED treatment is carried at the rear too in the form of uniquely styled C-shaped tail-lights.
- A faux scuff plate at the rear wraps up the SUV stance of the vehicle.
What’s unique under the hood?
Like the Magnite, Kiger also gets the same engine and transmission options.
- Talking about the powertrain in detail, the Renault Kiger gets a couple of 3-cylinder petrol engines, 1.0-litre naturally aspirated and a 1.0-litre turbocharged motor.
- The naturally aspirated engine generates a max power of 72hp with 96Nm of peak torque.
- Also, this motor can either be opted with a 5 speed AMT or a 5 speed MT.
- The engine with forced induction having the same capacity is capable of producing max power of about 100hp and a peak torque of 160Nm.
- Well, if it’s driving pleasure you are after, surely the one with 100hp will keep you entertained for long.
- The more powerful motor gets an option of a 5-speed MT and a 5 step CVT.

How is the interior like?
To be frank, many of the interior bits are carried straight from its counterpart from Nissan. But that would be nit-picking as this compact SUV is loaded to the brim with features. Here is what it has to offer on the inside:
- Wireless charging
Wireless Charger - 8-inch infotainment screen
Wireless Smart Phone Connectivity - Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- 7-inch display for the instrument cluster
All-digital instrument cluster - Rear AC vents
- 4-Speaker and 4-Tweeter sound system by Arkamys
Premium Sound System - Air-purifier
- Ambient lighting
- Driving modes (Yes! you read it right)

Rivals? Haha… Plenty!
Renault knows they are entering into an evergreen and one of the toughest segments in India. Hence, Kiger will be pitched against all the subcompact SUV in our market. And the SUVs in this segment include Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 to name a few.
Also, we can expect the prices to be similar to that of the Nissan Magnite, i.e ₹5.48 Lakhs to ₹9.95 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
