Renault, the renowned French carmaker unveiled its first subcompact SUV in the Indian market, ‘Kiger’ last month. The car might become the country’s cheapest sub-4-meter SUV when it is launched. Speaking of which, set the dates, 15 February 2021, because Renault will finally be rolling this SUV in our domestic market.
Renault Kiger will come in a really hot segment where Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon already rules.
What is the Renault Kiger Like?
Starting from the basics, the Renault Kiger is based on the CMF-A+ platform, which the Nissan Magnite also shares.
- Like the Magnite, the Renault Kiger also has two 1.0-litre petrol engines. One is a naturally aspirated and the other is the one with a turbocharger.
- The conventional engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 72hp and a peak torque of 96Nm.
- On the contrary, the more powerful engine produces 100hp of max power and 160Nm of peak torque.
- Along with the turbo petrol engines one can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-step CVT.
- The naturally aspirated engine only gets a 5-speed MT.
Creature Comforts and Features
Renault may set a new benchmark with this SUV as the vehicle may undercut its cousin the Magnite. Additionally, the unveil told us that the Kiger boasts of
- A trending look where the DRLs replace the position of the headlights. And the headlamps sit lower down in the bumper.
- A sculpted hood with large and flared wheel arches add the right amount of muscle to this SUV.
- Also, this all-LED treatment is carried at the rear too in the form of uniquely styled C-shaped tail-lights.
In terms of features, the Kiger gets

- 8-inch infotainment screen with wireless connectivity
- 7-inch display for the instrument cluster and more

What is the expected Price?
We can expect the prices to be lower to that of the Nissan Magnite. For reference, the Magnite starts at ₹5.48 Lakhs and goes till ₹9.95 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Remember set the calendar to 15 February 2021.
Renault Kiger competes with the big boys that include, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, and its sibling Nissan Magnite to name a few.
