Škoda Auto Volkswagen India has recently partnered with Amp Energy-a company that develops flexible and clean energy infrastructure to install India’s largest solar panelled roof-top system in its Chakan plant, Pune. Under this initiative, the German carmaker has installed over 25,000 photovoltaic solar panels at the plant.

The installation of these photovoltaic solar panels at the Chakan plant has covered almost 15% of the plant’s annual electricity requirements, the panels have a maximum output of 8.5MW. With putting its energy-saving equipment into operation, the company will be able to reduce its dependence on non-renewable energy at its Pune site, apart from creating an important prerequisite for the plant’s carbon neutrality.

Additionally, the company has also planned on creating a safe prerequisite to be called a carbon-neutral company by 2030. Although Škoda Auto Volkswagen India very own photovoltaic system consists of 25,770 highly efficient polycrystalline panels which covers a massive 63,000 sq. m of roof space on the body shop complex itself.
And with the installation of these new panels, the Chakan plant in Pune will be able to generate a total of 12.2 million kWh of energy per year, reducing the CO2 emissions resulting from car production at Škoda Auto Volkswagen India’s Pune plant by more than 9,000 tonnes per year.
