SUV evolution throughout the world has been absolutely phenomenal. And now adding up to the charm is the SsangYong Torres; which is set to redefine the global SUV space by blending in modern as well as old school philosophies. Here’s all we know about the SsangYong Torres:
SsangYong Torres
Much recently, SsangYong unveiled their Torres SUV via a digital event in South Korea. Built on a whole new platform, the Torres is strategically placed between the Korando and Rexton. In terms of what the Torres stands for, it is clear that the SUV retains SsangYong’s classic and distinct heritage that sets it apart from other SUVs in South Korea.
However, the Torres is the first-ever product from the OEM to feature the company’s new design philosophy, dubbed ‘Powered by Toughness’. The front look of the SUV wears a strong SUV character along with bold and powerful lines. Key characteristics of the front include LED projector headlights with LED DRLs and Fog Lamps, a 6-slat grille, and much more. The side profile too is quite intimidating, with a bold and aggressive SUV character. The company has also given the SUV Range Rover-inspired design cues, especially in the tail lights. The SUV also incorporates a top-hinged tailgate, fake exhausts, and a hexagonal element on the back that mimics the spare wheel placement.

Features, Powertrain and Price
On the inside, things get even better, with smart, intelligent, and modern offers. First off, the SUV gets dual touchscreens – 12.3-inch infotainment and an 8-inch control panel placed on top of one another that tilt a little towards the driver for ease. There are as many as four color choices for the interior including Khaki, Brown, Light Grey, and Black. Other features onboard include auto high beam, TPMS, and ADAS including lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot assist, automatic emergency brakes, and much more. Powering the Torres is a 1.5L e-XGDi150T turbo-petrol unit topped with a mild-hybrid that can return 170 bhp and 280 Nm, mated to a 6-speed automatic. Available in 7 color options, the SUV also offers dual-tone options as well.
In terms of price, the Torres is available starting from 27.4 Million Won (Approx. Rs. 16.2 lakh) going all the way up to 30.2 Million Won (Approx. Rs. 18.37 lakh). In terms of product placement, Torres slots between Korando and Rexton.
India Bound?
While everything about the SsangYong Torres seems exciting, there is currently no possibility of the SUV arriving in India, as the SUV will only sell in South Korea at present. In fact, Mahindra too has prepared to sell its stake in the company. But will the Torres be able to inspire SUVs that set foot on the Indian Shores? This is something that time can only answer.
