8 Cars That Were/Are Successful Post Their Facelifts

To stay competitive and updated, car makers in India launch new vehicles and update their existing line-up once every year or a couple of years. But if it’s a new product or a vehicle it may or may not be successful. That said, companies at times introduce a facelift or an update to make the car more compelling to buy. Well, we have coagulated a list of 8 cars in the Indian market that were successful after their facelift. Or at least they did better than their older counterparts. So, let’s roll right into it!

1. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross
   

   

   It’ll not be wrong if we say Maruti Suzuki has been India’s most successful carmaker for a couple of decades. But at times, they too take things a little too far and end up south. One of the vehicles to fall in this category is the S-Cross. Launched in 2015, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross still is among the well-engineered vehicles on the road.

   That said, because of the competition and the cross over’s aesthetics, this vehicle didn’t appeal to many. But later, as soon as the company gave the car a revamped aesthetics, car sales saw a steady rise. Though the sales numbers were class-leading, Suzuki S-Cross did a lot better.

2. Honda Jazz
   

   

   Another Japanese carmaker to take a second chance was Honda. The company launched their first premium hatchback in the Indian market to rival the likes of the then top-selling Hyundai i20. But as the car was a little overpriced and lacked some features from its competition, Honda Jazz did sell as expected.

   But later, Honda decided to give a second shot with the launch of next-gen Jazz. This is where Honda was lucky as this time around, the car gained some more ground than before when it comes to car sales. Nevertheless, in typical Honda essence, still, Honda Jazz costs a small premium for what it offers.

3. Skoda Rapid
   

   

   One of the carmakers in India to struggle from day one is Skoda. With focussing more on built quality, reliability (until now) and drivability the cars from Skoda were not selling big. More so, the car sales dipped until the company launched its updated c-segment sedan Skoda Rapid in India. After implementing the BS6 emission norms, Skoda ditched the diesel engine and a 1.6-litre MPI motor.

   Replacing the two in Skoda Rapid was a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. We’d say don’t go by its engine capacity as it is more than just meets the eye. Because of this, Skoda were able to price the Rapid at a price of a premium hatchback. And this update boosted the sales of the old but sophisticated sedan Skoda Rapid.

4. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (Petrol)
   

   

   The star of the list has to be the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza for the reason of high yet low sales. What does that mean, you may ask? Sure, the car had a good reputation with promising aesthetics and the ‘S’ (Suzuki) badge on its grille. It was the powertrain that was refraining the people from buying Vitara Brezza for at the time of its launch, the SUV was only available with a diesel engine.

   But Maruti Suzuki, too getting rid of the diesel mill once and for all, made way for a petrol motor into this Maruti. Now, even more, people were now avid in buying this potent and reliable vehicle. Also, with this new powertrain, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza gained 15 more horses than before.

5. Hyundai Elite i20
   

   

   Shifting our focus to the first successful premium hatchback, the Hyundai i20. The Koran car maker Hyundai brought the i20 to Indian shores in 2018, and this was when the Swift was the only top-selling mid-size hatchback in India. Still, Hyundai took a gamble and launched a hatchback a class above. But it took some time for the people to recognize what his hatchback could do.

   That said, with slowly sales climbing, Hyundai didn’t settle there. And later in 2014, took a step further and gave the i20 a generation change. Comes the Hyundai Elite i20. This is the car that also won the ICOTY award, and later it becomes the best-selling premium hatchback in the country.

6. Tata Tiago (Bolt Successor)
   

   

   Okay, let us agree that Tata has tried to capture the Indian market multiple times. But just because of its reputation of poor after-sales didn’t make a dent. Still, Tata never stopped. From Tata Indica to Tata Tiago, there have been numerous tries. Allow us to tell you that, essentially, Tata Tiago is the successor of the not so famous Tata Bolt.

7. MG Hector
   

   

   The car that was criticized big time at the time of its launch is the MG Hector. MG’s first car into the Indian market was a little quirky. Starting with the side, it passed alloy wheels (nothing special), but the size of these alloys gave the SUV weird proportions.

   Moving to the rear, it had this red strip that felt a little too overdone. Fast-forwarding to 2021, MG updates Hector and Hector Plus. Now with better aesthetics and the addition of new features, MG Hector appealed to many people.

8. Tata Tigor EV (expected)
   

   

   If we had to guess the Indian carmaker focused on producing new innovations and new car propulsion systems, one name comes to our head, Tata. Tata Nexon EV, the first-ever electric vehicle from an Indian carmaker for the consumer (excluding the commercial EVs).
