Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ignis & S-Presso Score 1 Star At Global NCAP!

The latest news in town is that Maruti Suzuki’s latest lineup has been tested under the Global NCAP crash tests. This is the only space where this automaker fails to impress the audience and potential customers. Under the new upgraded testing conditions laid down by the Global NCAP, Maruti’s Swift, Ignis and S-Presso have scored a new 1-star rating. For your reference, Ignis and Swift had a 3-star rating earlier, whereas the S-Presso had a 0-star rating in the earlier performed test.

2022 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (1-Star GNCAP Rating)

This time, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has an upgrade in the adult safety rating as it has a 1-star rating. Still, the child safety rating persists at a disappointing number of 0 stars. This entry-level hatch scored 20.3 out of 34 points, leading to a single-star rating. Getting into details, this car scored 8.9 out of 17 for frontal-offset impact and 11.9 points out of 17 for the side deformable crash test. Regarding child protection, the hatch got only 3.52 points out of the possible 49 points! This was mainly due to no ISOFIX and booster seats on offer.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Swift (1-Star GNCAP Rating)

Coming to the second one, Maruti Swift has also got a 1-star rating in the latest GNCAP crash test. Earlier, the same car had a 2-star rating in 2018, but we guess the testing conditions have become more stringent, which is why the new rating is only a single star! A thing to note here is that the same rating is applicable for the Dzire sedan, as both cars underpin the same platform. Another disappointing result for Maruti Suzuki NCAP, we can say. Getting into details, the sporty hatch from the Indian automaker scored 6.9 points for the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 12.9 points for the side movable deformable barrier test, making a total of 19.19 points out of 34. For child safety, this sporty hatch got 16.68 points out of 49 possible points.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis (1-Star GNCAP Rating)

Last but not least, among the Maruti Suzuki NCAP ratings, Ignis has also been tested and got a 1-star rating. Getting into the details for this one, the overall score was 16.48 for the adult protection test, which has garnered a one-star rating. Ignis has 3.86 points for child safety out of a possible 49 points. The Ignis gets ISOFIX anchorages as standard on the two outboard rear seats. Well, it also lacks a 3-point seatbelt for the middle rear passenger.

What do you think about yet another disappointing Maruti Suzuki GNCAP test? Do you think these safety ratings affect Indians’ car-buying decisions? The sales numbers don’t suggest so but do let us know in the comments below.
