Tata has been caught testing the new Harrier BS6 SUV on Indian roads. This means that the 2.0-litre diesel engine will be receiving major BS6 compliance upgrades. Tata is also updating its current and future line-up of car models to comply with the upcoming BS6 norms scheduled for 1st April 2020.

Tata Harrier BS6 | Highlights
- The current-gen Tata Harrier SUV is offered in a BS4 avatar using the EGR-assisted 2.0L Kryotec diesel engine which produces 140 ps and 350 nm of torque using a 6-speed manual-only gearbox with FWD (front-wheel-drive) configuration.
- Speculations are that Tata will be retaining the same diesel engine but in a different state of tune. The engine will now produce 170 bhp which is 30 bhp more and will get a new Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
- The 2.0-litre diesel engine is sourced from FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) and is the same that does duty on the Jeep Compass and on the upcoming 7-seater Harrier; Tata Buzzard. Similarly, the Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox can be the same used on the Hyundai Tucson.
- There are also reports that this BS6 compliant diesel engine will only be used on the top-end variant of the Tata Harrier.
- The all-new Tata Harrier BS6 will be priced at a premium of more than a lakh over standard manual counterparts.
- The current-gen Tata Harrier comes in 4 variants; XE, XM, XT and XZ which cost in the range of ₹12.99 lakh to ₹16.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
- The Tata Harrier BS6 will compete with rivals such as the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV 500 and Jeep Compass.
