Tata Hexa Discontinued; To Relaunch As Safari Edition Later

Tata Motors has decided to discontinue the BS4-compliant Hexa. The company recently unveiled the Safari edition of Hexa at the Auto Expo 2020. It was the BS6 variant of the premium crossover. Tata Hexa has been low in terms of sales. Maybe, this is the reason for the company to discontinue the SUV.

But, there’s good news for those who want it back. Tata Hexa will be re-launched as Safari edition in the second half of this year. It will be equipped with a BS6-compliant version of the current 2.2-litre diesel engine.

As per the exterior is concerned, Tata Hexa Safari Concept is based on the 4×4 variant of the BS4-compliant Hexa but is coming with a more rugged look. The company says the colours of Safari edition will be inspired by the earthly tones of nature. Company will also have a set of roof rails and distinctive paint on the body cladding.

Interiors of the Safari edition won’t be any different than the current version. The only major difference would be the upholstery and the Safari edition badging at the dashboard.

The transmission options available with the Hexa are 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. You can expect these to be carried forward. The four-wheel-drive option will be given as a choice.

The Tata Hexa Safari Edition once launched will have to compete against Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector and Toyota Innova Crysta.

Tata is also going to launch a 7 seat version of the Harrier, named Gravitas. Tata Gravitas is based on the OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) platform just like the Harrier. The company has also been actively bringing its A-game to the table in the EV segment with cars like Nexon EV and a Sierra EV concept which can be expected to get into production soon.
