Tata Motors to develop a dedicated EV platform | The road to a clean future

Our very own homegrown automobile giant Tata Motors seems to be working rigorously on developing their own electric vehicle platform as the carmaker believes that is step might result in them saving a huge cost in terms of space, costs and optimising systems.

Just to make things clear Tata Motors is the only committed player in the Indian EV space and have already unveiled their first EV the Tata Nexon EV for private buyers. The Nexon EV is India’s first sub-compact SUV which comes under Rs. 15 lakhs and on top of that it comes with an ARAI certified range of 312km range.

The EV is the first and probably the last to be based on Tata Motors legendary legacy X1 platform. However, all the next-gen EV’s shall be based on a shared platform. The first being the Altroz EV which will be based on the recently introduced ALFA architecture.

Unlike the previously used IC platform that was adapted to take on electric motors and batteries. A dedicated EV platform will allow designers and engineers to have more space, hardware and system dedicated to a combustion engine.

And with Tata Motors introducing a dedicated EV platform which will provide more compact and aerodynamic bonnets with no space dedicated for an exhaust system with a combustion engine and a large capacity fuel tank.

This will also allow engineers to give importance to other stuff including the placement of batteries between the wheels, averaging the material cost on the chassis and simplifying other electrical systems. Tata has been working towards making the roads safer and cleaner and let’s hope that others also do the same.
