With that said, one of India’s largest carmakers Tata Motors is planning to re-introduce the nation’s first microcar, the Tata Nano, technically. The brand has decided to pull the Nano from the dead and relaunch it as an electric vehicle.

- It is also being reported that Tata Motors is already in talks with the Tamil Nadu government to acquire Ford’s car manufacturing facility to expand its EV lineup.

- It was back in 2017 when Pune-based Jayem Automotives, in collaboration with Tata Motors, launched the performance variant of the Tata Tiago, named the Tata Tiago JTP.
- A similar idea of the Tata Nano EV also made it to the idea table. Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives started working a the Nano EV.
- In fact, a Test Mule of the Nano EV was spotted at the Tata Motors Akurdi Plant in Pune.
- The plan was to kickstart OLA’s Electric Cab Fleet with just over 400 units of the Nano EVs.
- However, the ambitious Tata Nano EV plan was then abruptly redacted due to unknown reasons.
- When launched of the Tata Nano EV is expected to rival the soon-to-launch MG Air EV and the recently launched PMV electric (the cheapest Electric Car in India).
- However, due to the fact that the PMV EASE is a two-seater, it technically qualifies as a Quadracycle. So with the launch of the Nano EV, it can be India’s cheapest proper electric car.
- Going by leading media reports, the Tata Nano EV might get a 17kWh to 20kwh battery pack with an alleged range of around 200kms.
- In its ICE form, the Nano used to come with a 624cc petrol engine paired with 5-speed manual gearbox.
- The prospective Nano EV will be based on the same X3 platform, with a different Suspension and Tyre setup to accommodate the new EV Powertrain.
- As of 2022, Tata Motors hold a strong 88% market share in the EV segment in India. With the Nano EV launch, this share percentage will get a strong boost.
- Tata will have an EV in its portfolio for every car segment and budget in India.
- Now, returning to its EV form, its Nano version is also expected to have an ARAI-certified range of 200km on a single charge.
- The Nano EV is also likely to receive major cosmetic upgrades compared to its discontinued ICE form.

Sincerely hope TATA will be able to usher in a realistic car at reasonable cost. EV price is a farse, a loot by manufacturer and government cartels currently.
