Tata Nexon Next-Gen Interior Spied: New Cabin, Features & What to Expect

Tata Motors is still running tests for the next Tata Nexon on Indian roads, and the SUV is already getting notice. The body is still wrapped in thick camouflage. Even so, new spy photos have shown more of the cabin. They also suggest a few updates for the upcoming version.

Right now, the Nexon is one of Tata’s best selling SUVs. The newer one seems to go a different way inside. Rather than adding more displays, Tata may aim for a neater, easier-to-use cabin. The goal could be a layout that feels more useful day to day, while making regular car maintenance easier and more convenient for owners. On the test vehicle, several items stand out. The steering wheel looks new. The dashboard shape appears to be revised. There are also signs of changed switches and knobs. An electronic parking brake is said to be part of the update.

So, what might the next Nexon cabin include? Below is what has been seen so far.

What Does the Nexon Next-Gen Dashboard Look Like?

The next-gen Nexon is set to bring a new look inside, mainly in the dashboard area. Based on what the test car shows, Tata has redesigned the dash compared with the current version. In the current Nexon, the cabin uses a modern setup. There is a floating infotainment screen, a digital instrument panel, and controls that rely on touch. The test model seems to move away from that style. The main infotainment display is still placed in the center. But the trim and surrounding layout look different.

Tata might go for a simpler horizontal pattern around the screen. That kind of design can make the cabin feel more open and roomy. Tata has not shown the final dashboard for sure yet. So some details spotted on the test car could change before the SUV reaches dealerships.

Does the Nexon get a new steering wheel?

A quick thing to notice is the new steering wheel design. It has four spokes. The current Nexon gets a two-spoke wheel, so the change stands out right away. This new wheel looks more typical in shape. It may also add buttons for audio, phone use, and the driver screen. Tata might keep the current lit logo too. Or it could switch to a fresh look for the next cabin. Beyond the dashboard style, the updated steering wheel may make the Nexon feel more grown up. The current car feels a bit more basic in comparison.

Will It Get an Electronic Parking Brake?

Inside the test car, another item caught attention. It is an electronic parking brake, while other everyday ownership needs such as car battery replacement remain important for hassle-free use. It is an electronic parking brake. Replacing the usual lever type brake with an electronic one may open up room near the centre console. Tata could then place more storage there. It could also allow for a revised set of controls.

An electronic parking brake may also pair with features like auto hold. Tata has not said if the final Nexon will include every one of these features.

Large Touchscreen To Remain Same

Even if Tata does more with physical buttons, it may not drop the big touchscreen in the car.

  • Right now, the Nexon comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment setup. It also supports phone linking, plus connected-car features.
  • For the next Nexon, the expectation is a new infotainment unit. That would mean a fresh look on the screen and hardware that may be better than before.
  • Some add-ons could still show up. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are among them. Connected-car functions and a nicer sound system may also remain, mainly on the higher trims.
  • What screen size the next model will use, and what software it will include, is not confirmed yet.

What New Features Could the Nexon Get?

Tata may add more tech in the next update for the next-gen Nexon. The current model already has a lot of options, and the exact items change by variant. Some versions come with a panoramic sunroof. Others include ventilated front seats, plus wireless charging and a 360-degree camera. You can assume some of these bits will carry over to the newer car. Tata might also tweak the camera setup. It could update the connected system too. The driver help features may get changes as well.

That said, it matters to keep two things separate. What people have actually seen should not be treated the same as what is just expected. Tata has not shared the full equipment list for the next-generation Nexon.

Will the Next Nexon Be More Practical?

These upgrades will certainly make things easier for us while we drive our next-gen Nexon on a daily basis. Physical controls, a redesigned centre console as well as an electronic parking break are some of them which may bring better usability into the cab. Considering that the Nexon is essentially a family & Urban SUV, features such as easy access to climate control, presence of various storage spaces, seat comforts, good visibility and so on would contribute much more to its daily usage rather than putting up more screens.

It’s also possible that Tata might work towards improving the rear seat comforts & storage space through this new-gen version but we are unable to comment on those as they aren’t visible via today’s spy-shots!

What will the Powertrain Offer?

Next-gen Nexon will have more powertrain variants, giving Tata an edge to cater to various segments of consumers. As for now, you can find the petrol, diesel & CNG variants. And we don’t know what kind of powertrain choices are coming with this next-gen SUV. But Tata hasn’t revealed much about it yet, including the confirmation of the final specs of the engines that will be used here. However, we’re sure that there would be more tweaks and improvements on the existing line-up of electrified cars from Tata, especially considering the importance of the Nexon EV in the brand’s portfolio. So keep a watch on the news.

When Will The Next-Gen Tata Nexon Launch?

No word on when Tata will officially announce its launch of this next-gen SUV, but the company continues to test this one out on our Indian roads with the heavily camouflaged bodywork hiding the final version’s looks. We expect more test cars and some better spy shots from Tata as the project moves forward and perhaps even some details on the car’s design, cabin layout, engines and features close to its official launch.Of course, these specs you see here on the test vehicle are just things we’ve already spotted on the car during our testing period.

Conclusion

While we’re still waiting for the first photos of the full next-gen interior, our initial test vehicle gives us some clues as to what’s in store. It appears Tata has been tinkering around with a number of different changes including a new four-spoke steering wheel, a redesigned dashboard, physical controls, and even an electronic parking brake. On the plus side, Tata also seems committed to retaining both the big touchscreen infotainment system along with plenty of technology focused features, which are key elements to the Nexon’s current success. However, on balance this could lead to a pretty confusing user interface at times, while the introduction of physical buttons should offer greater familiarity, particularly for those items you’ll be using every day behind the wheel.

Tata looks set to provide an improved, but more grown up version of the Nexon with a tech focus for its next-gen offering.

Will the next-gen Tata Nexon get a bigger touchscreen?

What about the size of the touchscreen? As you can see from the image above, we’re unable to give you specifics at this point but given what’s shown here, there will be no denying that the car now comes with a touchscreen as well as the updated version of its infotainment system (the current Nexon currently houses a 10.25 inch one).

Will the new Tata Nexon sport any physical buttons?

It would appear that way judging from the images above while we aren’t sure how much more they are adding over the existing setup (for instance, we are guessing that there are going to be a lot more physical buttons around the climate control section) at this point though, Tata hasn’t made it official whether or not the next-gen will retain them.
