The Tata Peregrine Is The Honda City/Maruti Ciaz/Hyundai Verna Rival

After tasking success with the Tiago in the economy segment, Tata Motors is planning to venture into the highly competitive C-Segment sedan category in India. The C-Segment sedan market is dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. Tata plans to disrupt this by bringing in its own iteration of a semi-premium (Mid-Size) sedan known as the Tata Peregrine.

The Tata Peregrine or the X452, as codenamed by Tata is based on Tata’s ALFA platform which is same as on the Altroz and the upcoming Maruti S-Presso-rival; The Tata HBX micro SUV. The Tata Peregrin will feature Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design language again as seen on the Tata Harrier and the Altroz (codenames X451). Back in the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, Tata Motors showcased the E-Vision concept and we speculate that the new Tata Peregrin will take a lot of cues from this concept car.

The overall styling of the new Tata sedan will resemble a lot with the Altroz right from the nose to the bodyline to the split headlamp assembly and the front grille (Tata calls this 3D Humanity Line). In terms of features and gadgets, the Peregrine will get the Harman Kardon audio treatment along with Tata’s connected car tech.

Going with the safety traditions of Tata with the Altroz and the Nexon, the Peregrine sedan will also boast a good Global NCAP rating.

On the engine part, It is speculated that the Tata Peregrin will feature a 1.2-litre BS6 compliant turbocharged petrol engine, which does duty on the current-gen Tata Nexon. This 1.2-litre motor can produce 118 bhp of power and 170nm of torque which is at par with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna. The Tata Peregrine will also get a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit with 108bhp and 260nm of torque.

It was earlier reported that Tata has suspended the plans for a C-Segment sedan to focus more on developing a Kia Seltos/Hyundai Creta rival, however, recent movements speculate that Tata may very well launch the Peregrin in the Indian market by 2022.
