Tata Tigor EV vs Nexon EV | What’s The Difference?

With the forever rising petrol prices, electric vehicles are making more sense than conventional vehicles with IC engines. That said, it is the current century that has witnessed the launches of numerous electric vehicles. After multiple electric two-wheeler launches, Tata has recently unveiled the new Tigor EV in India, making it the first sedan to support an electric powertrain.

Also, this is the second vehicle from the company that is battery-powered, of course after the Tata Nexon EV. With Tata already having a vehicle with an electric powertrain, the Nexon EV, how does the new electric sedan fare against the SUV? Let’s find out.

How Both the Cars Measures?

"2021

We here are comparing the dimensions of a compact sedan with a subcompact SUV, not apt, but you should know.

Dimensions Comparison

Tata Tigor EV Tata Nexon EV
Length (mm) 3,993 3,993
Width (mm) 1,677 1811
Height (mm) 1532 1,606
Wheelbase (mm) 2450 2,498
Boot Space (Litres) 316 350

Looking at the figures, the Tata Tigor EV is no far behind. Both the cars share the exact same overall length with the Nexon EV being a little wider. Being an SUV, it is evident that the Tigor EV isn’t that tall. Even the Wheelbase is marginally better in Nexon. This means, there will not be a huge difference in terms of space on the inside.

Sedan Over SUV? | Aesthetics

Again, not a valid comparison, but both having fairly the same dimension let’s do it anyway. Tata Tigor EV and Tata Nexon not being wide apart in terms of measurements, it boils down to the body structure you are looking for.

If we go by the current trend, SUVs or rather pseudo SUVs are the new norms. But that means you might have to shed a little more for Nexon over the Tigor. (Prices, more on that later in the article.

Coming back to the design, Tata Nexon EV truly carries the facia of a botched SUV. With a fairly large front grille and aggressive projector setup for the headlights.

  • But mind it, these get conventional halogen bulbs than LED or HIDs.
  • Over to the side, the extended wheel arches incorporate the large-sized alloy wheels rather well.
  • At the rare, the robust design continues with clear tail lights adding the touch of premium-ness to the vehicle.
  • On the inside, is also the same as the conventional Nexon, minus the gear lever. For which there is a cubby hole for you nick-nacks.

Over to the Tata Tiago, like the Nexon, it borrows everything on the outside from its IC counterpart.

  • Yes, this means, the new Tigor gets the updated design scheme, with different colour schemes.
  • This translates to the new Tigor EV getting all the bells and whistles like projector headlight setup and an aggressive front end design.
  • Other cosmetic updates include new alloy wheels with blue accents, a new enclosed grille and Ziptron badging on the boot.

Engine Comparison

Tata Tigor EV Tata Nexon EV
Power 75hp 127bhp
Torque 170Nm 245Nm
Battery 26kWh 30.2kWh
Range 300+ (claimed) 312km
Charging Speed 1 hour (0-80%) 8.5 hours (0-100%)

This is where both the cars start to differentiate from each other. Clearly, it is the Nexon EV that is a lot more powerful. Also, this will aid in lowering the price of the Tata Tigor EV.

Final Verdict

Now, as of now, Tata has just unveiled the Tigor EV. This translates that, the prices are not out yet. But if we had to guess, we assume the price of the top-end trim to be about ₹11 Lakh. On the other hand, the price for Tata Nexon EV starts at ₹13.99 Lakh to about ₹16.85 Lakh. Yes, both electric vehicles are a part of a completely different segment. Also, with more price, you are getting a lot more power and a little more space on the inside. We’ll have to wait for Tata to disclose the prices, so time is the variable that’ll help decide.
