Tata has finally launched the i-CNG versions of its entry-level hatchback Tiago & Tigor sedan. These are the first two cars in the lineup to have a CNG variant. Tata is now the third carmaker offering factory-fit CNG, but Tata has offered first in segment features that rivals miss out on their CNG cars.

Both of these cars were in testing for some time, and we observed respective spy shots around the same time. Word around also says that Altroz & Nexon will also have an i-CNG version this year. Let’s look at what the i-CNG Tiago & Tigor offer:

Engine & Fuel Economy
Tata Revotron Engine | Powerful engines in India The Tiago & Tigor are powered by the same 1.2 litres Revotron petrol engine making 86hp & 113Nm torque. The CNG versions make 73hp & 95Nm peak torque. There is an additional 100kgs added to the weight with the CNG kits.

This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual, and the ARAI confirmed fuel efficiency for the Tiago is 26.4 km/kg & 35.6 km/kg for the Tigor.

First In Segment Features
Tigor Boot Space The CNG version is offered in every variant from base to top for the Tiago; on the other hand, it is provided only on the top two variants of the Tigor. There are no design changes except the rear’s additional ‘i-CNG’ badging. The boot space has taken a massive hit; Tiago has come down from 242 to 80 litres & Tigor from 419 to 205 litres.

These cars can start directly in the CNG mode is among the list of new features. As Tata is known for making the safest cars, except for the excellent NCAP rating, they are also equipped with a feature that does not start the engine if the fuel lid is open.
Tigor i-CNG In addition to that there, they are also equipped with leak detection technology that switches to petrol in case of a g wipers. Lastly, another segment first is automatic climate control.

Pricing
The price is hiked by ₹90,000 for the CNG versions; Tigor CNG starts at ₹7.69 lakhs while the Tiago CNG starts at ₹6.09lakhs; the variant-wise pricing is as follows:
