MPVs or Multi-Purpose Vehicles have been in demand in India for a long time now. Their ultimate ruggedness, multi-purpose usage and features allow the customers to have luxury and thrill all in one vehicle. With the segment being popular, carmakers have been trying to impress the customers with their offerings. Let’s have a look at 10 such top-class MPVs that are available in the Indian market.

    The Korean manufacturer came to India when the automobile industry was at knees. In 2019, Kia Seltos was launched, being the first offering from the manufacturer in India. Seltos managed to grab a lot of attention and soon became one of the best selling cars in India showing the potential country’s market has. This prompted Kia to launch a Toyota Innova Crysta rival, Carnival. And the MPV carried on the legacy Seltos was able to make in no time. With a 2.2-litre diesel engine that can churn 197hp of power and 440Nm of torque, the massive beast comes loaded with first-in-class features and luxuries that none of its rivals can even close in.

This beast comes with two engine options: 2.6-litre Dual VVT-i petrol and a 2.4-litre FTV diesel engines. The powerful engines drool power with every rev but are still very silent. Though the king will have to rival against the latest entry which goes by the name of Kia Carnival, we’ll have to see whether the popularity remains the same or not.

It has got features like automatic climate control, cruise control, leather seats, 4.2-inch instrument cluster with Apple CarPlay and Android Support, auto-dimming IRVM and much more, what more can you ask for at a starting price of ₹10lakhs in this segment.

    The German manufacturer of luxury rides has nothing less than another epitome of class in the MPV segment. The V-Class comes equipped with a 2.2-litre V 220d engine which oozes 161hp of power and a 380Nm of torque. At the latest edition of Auto Expo, the luxury carmaker unveiled the V-Class Marco Polo with a starting price of ₹1.38crores. Yes, you read the right price, as the opulence will cost a fortune for sure. This is the costliest MPV on the list.

    I won’t say that this a perfect MPV. But it surely is a good one. It has got looks of the MPV, seating capacity to suit the segment, Duster sourced 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine which can produce 108.5hp of power and 245Nm of torque and a pretty comfortable and powerful ride. And all this comes at a starting price of ₹8,63,000. This price will surely allow you to keep the design aspect and see the features that the company is offering with it.

  6. Toyota Vellfire

    The Japenese carmaker launched a rival against the Mercedes V-Class under the name of Vellfire. The luxury hybrid is equipped with a 2.5-litre petrol hybrid which produces 115hp of power and 198Nm of torque. Launched on 26th February, the company has already sold a decent number of this MPV. The long list of features of Vellfire includes 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 13-inch rear touchscreen, tri-zone climate control, dual sunroof, cruise control, a 17-speaker JBL sound system, and 16-colour ambient lighting in the roof. 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, electric parking brake with auto-hold function and a tyre pressure monitor system take care that the occupants of this ultra-luxury are safe.

    The successor to Maruti’s famous Omni, Eeco has substantially become one of the best selling cars due to its price and multi-purpose usage. The company had to discontinue Omni due to the strict safety rules which made the MUV unsafe for occupants. Eeco is the least priced MPV at the list as the starting price for this basic MPV is just ₹3,91,000. This price and the best in class fuel efficiency makes this one of the most viable cargo carriers in the country.

    Sold through the NEXA platform of the company, the premium offering from the carmaker comes equipped with the new-gen 1.5-litre K15B engine. It is based on the Ertiga but is bigger and taller than it. XL6 comes loaded with features like cruise control, LED headlamps with automatic function, leather upholstery, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, push-button start with keyless entry, coloured multi-info display and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs which make it a good choice at a starting price of ₹9,85,000.

    Another MPV on the list from India’s largest carmaker, Ertiga is one of the best selling cars in the segment. Due to the BS6 norms, the company has shed the diesel engine. The power unit is the same as that of the XL6. It also has a CNG equipped variant which makes it a good choice for the taxi drivers due to economical stance. The MPV was able to score a 3-star rating at the Global NCAP, only a few of the company’s cars have been able to achieve this number. Due to the price hike, it has been put up against the Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy. Will it be able to survive the changing market trends. Only time can tell that.

    It is the French carmaker which has got a good styled MPVs in a price bracket lower than ₹6lacs. Triber is another MPV on the list from Renault. Based on Kwid, the sub-4 metre MPV is a decently powered car with a good list of features such as driver’s information display, 8-inch touchscreen, manual air conditioning and cooled central compartment. The MPV can seat up to 7 people which makes it a good choice for families with more than 4 members too. Renault also launched the much-awaited automatic transmission variant of the Triber at the Auto Expo 2020.
