Toyota Hilux Officially Unveiled! Price Reveal Soon?

Toyota has officially unveiled the Hilux for the Indian market! This is a very bold step that they have taken since the market for pick-up trucks in India is almost negligible. While the Toyota Hilux has been officially unveiled, the prices haven’t been revealed yet. Toyota has started accepting bookings for this mammoth, and deliveries might begin in April after the prices are officially revealed in March 2022. Here are a few things to note about the Toyota Hilux unveil.

  1. Why this launch is a bold move?

Well, as stated before, the market cap for pick-up trucks in India is very very small. The roads in most cities are not big enough to house a vehicle of this size, which makes driving it very inconvenient. Indian buyers usually prefer smaller, more compact cars, which is why the sales of compact and sub-compact SUVs are sky-rocketing. Moreover, the off-road driving culture in India has just started to reach more people, and SUVs like the Mahindra Thar have already started capturing these customers.

  1. Who’s the Hilux for?

Toyota says that the Hilux is aimed towards customers who want to combine daily-driving requirements with adventure-oriented capabilities off the roads. Pick-up trucks in India are more of a lifestyle vehicle than a functional one, so the Hilux might be a good option for people looking for a 2nd, or 3rd car.

  1. Engine and Capabilities

The engine on this one will be the same 2.8L Diesel motor that we see on the Fortuner. It produces 204HP and 500nm torque. Unlike the Fortuner, the Hilux will only be available with a 4×4 system. It will also get an additional low-range gearbox and front & rear electronic differential locks. The approach angle for the Hilux is 29-degrees and the departure angle comes in at 26-degrees. The Hilux also has a water-wading capacity of 700mm.
