Revisiting the Toyota Innova and Why India loves this MPV

Incredible India, this describes our country as much as a family MPV describes the Toyota Innova. Be it, joint families or bachelor, with friends, everyone just loves this people mover. It is hard to believe the time without Innova, from taxi to the luxury MPV, Toyota Innova grew on India like a plague. With that, let us have a look at where and why Innova?

After Toyota launching Innova in Indonesia in 2004, launched it in India in early 2005. The company carefully planned Innova’s launch as their then former MPV Qualis was discontinued. Qualis had reliable engines and robustly built that made the firm grounds for the premium Innova.

Back in 2005, Toyota Innova had 2 engine to choose from, a petrol and a diesel. The diesel engine offered was the famous D-4D 2.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel that capable of producing 102bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. It was surely not a powerful engine considering today’s standards, but it was indeed a versatile engine. The petrol engine was a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine producing 136ps and 182Nm of peak torque.

2009- The First Facelift

It took 4 years for Innova to introduce an update for the popular Toyota Innova. In 2009, Innova came with a fair number of changes. These changes include a new grille in the front, new alloy wheels, and more. After braking the sales records, Toyota made 2009 Innova luxurious with features like steering mounted controls, MID, better seat upholstery automatic climate control.

In 2010, an Intercooler was added to the powertrain making it cooler to run and slightly more efficient. ‘

2012 – The Second (major) Facelift

2012 facelift was all about outside rather than inside. When getting inside one would notice some new elements in the dash, that includes, a touchscreen infotainment system and steering mounted controls. Talking about the touch screen it was USB, AUX and Bluetooth compatible and were easily operable via steering mounted controls. A reversing camera was also a part of the kit.

On the outside, Toyota Innova featured a new grille, new wrap-around tail lights, and some hints of chrome all around. This made the MPV look more of a family car than a taxi.

2013 – The Third Facelift

After 2012 updated, Innova was good enough to be used as a family car. Well, it wasn’t enough for Toyota, and in 2013 again updated the exteriors. The major changes include chrome accents on the front grille and fog lamp inserts. Wooden accents were some aesthetics changes on the inside. This is where Toyota introduced a new ‘Z’ variant that sad on top of the lineup. Sadly, Toyota Innova didn’t get any changes under the hood and used the same 2.5-litre D4D diesel engine.

2015 – The Last Descendant of the Toyota Innova

  1. Continue production of model 2015 and do its engine powerful like new crysta but body model like 2015 i m not like crysta but like old 2015 model

  2. Innova crysta is more expensive than jeep compass , xuv 500, Tata Harrier, Ertiga, s cross, Creta, Duster, Ford EcoSport, Kia seltos, MG Hecter, Mahindra Scorpio, Bolero, Marazo and even Vetara Breza . 40 % of the Indian population is below extreme poverty. So for Indian ,it is impossible to buy such a most hiking price car If we observe carefully , the very attractive design ,less price, better mileage, powerful and toughest body ,It is best to buy Mahindra Scorpio or Mahindra XUV 500 on the Indian rough roads We have both options new or used car, but all buyers must buy used car after January 2012 Thanking you Indian car buyers .

  3. Excellent article about the Toyota Innova with an entertaining use words 🙂 This model is trendy in Indonesia, like it is in India. Maybe it will be more accurate to say that it is extremely popular. Like the direction, Toyota is taking with their MPV, and I’m sure that it will remain a best seller for the years to come.
