Toyota Reveals New RAV4 Prime Plug-in Hybrid

Toyota recently unveiled its latest production the RAV4 prime plug-in hybrid at the 2019 LA Auto Show. Although spec sheets pop with eye-opening stat after another. This year has been full of ups and downs for the Japanese auto giant.

Toyota is all set to launch its Luxury MPV the Vellfire in the first half of 2020 and the company shall discontinue its entire Etios lineup prior to the implementation of the BS6 emission norms in April 2020.

• The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid variant comes equipped with a 302hp powertrain capable of churning more than 59km off of its electric-only running. 
• The international variant of the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid features a 2.5-litre petrol engine producing 175hp of power and comes matted to a high-capacity lithium-ion battery unit, with the powertrain featuring a boost converter on the hybrid’s power control unit.
• It is still unsure whether Toyota will stick to the same engine specs for the Indian variant or not. Although the Japanese auto giant has already launched the RAV4 prime plug-in Hybrid in the UK which features a 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid producing 218hp in front-wheel-drive, and 222hp in all-wheel-drive models. 
• Toyota also claims that the RAV4 prime plug-in hybrid can do 0-100kph in a matter of 6.2 seconds and can deliver the “best-in-class CO2 emissions and fuel economy”, although all specs have not been disclosed by Toyota yet.
• However, Toyota also claims that the RAV4 prime plug-in hybrid features a  ‘WLTP-standard data’ indicates CO2 emissions of less than 30g/km.
• The RAV4 is due to go on sale next year for International markets. However, it is still unknown that when will Toyota launch the plug-in hybrid in India and at what price. Rumours suggest that the company could unveil its Plug-in Hybrid at the 2020 Auto Expo.
