According to a report published by a leading media house, India’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has recently approved the application to supply the 2020 variant of the Brezza compact SUV to Toyota which will be initially rebadged and launched as the Toyota Urban Cruiser.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be the second product to come out of the MSIL and Toyota Kirloskar JV after the Maruti Baleno was rebadged and launched as the Toyota Glanza by the TKM.
The all-new Toyota Urban cruiser will be based on the same platform which underpins the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and is expected to receive some minor tweaks in the form of a new grille and the Toyota logo on multiple locations such as the steering wheel, alloy wheels and the tailgate.
It is for sure that the Urban Cruiser compact SUV will get a Vitara Brezza sourced 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol unit capable of generating 103hp at 6,000rpm with 138Nm of peak torque at 4,400rpm while paired to a standard 5-speed manual and an option 4-speed torque convertor.
We can also expect the new urban SUV to get a dual-battery SHVS mild-hybrid system similar to that of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza So we can expect it return around 18-19kmpl.
