Toyota Working On CNG Cars?

It seems like Toyota is making the most out of its partnership with Maruti Suzuki. After sharing electric mobility solutions and launching the rebadged Baleno as the Glanza, Toyota is planning to introduce CNG cars in India.

  • Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are in a mutually-benefitting partnership in India.
  • While Toyota is sharing its e-mobility and hybrid technology with Maruti. Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand, is exercising its huge manufacturing power to supply parts and components to rebadged cars (Toyota Glanza).
  • The rebadged Maruti Suzuki Baleno called the Toyota Glanza was launched back in June 2019. Toyota is planning to rebadge the Ertiga, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza as well.

  • Toyota is also planning to share its BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) technology with Maruti Suzuki in India.
  • Maruti Suzuki was seen heavily testing the WagonR electric on the roads of Gurugram. The WagonR is using the battery and electric motor technology borrowed from Toyota.

Toyota Working On CNG Cars? | Highlights

Now Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are exploring its partnership with Toyota planning to utilise Maruti’s expertise in CNG technology to launch its own CNG car in India.

Toyota believes that with the death of the small capacity diesel engine, CNG is the way to go.

Maruti Suzuki supremo RC Bhargava announced that the company is inaugurating 10,000 CNG distribution outlets as the customers are accepting the alternative source of energy.

It should be noted that Toyota has been selling CNG powered cars globally however, it plans on using Maruti’s tried and trusted sources for CNG cars in India.

With the proposition still in talks, Maruti Suzuki will reportedly convert some of its small cars to run on CNG for Toyota.
