Upcoming Cars In 2022 That Are Worth Waiting For | Part 1

If given a chance, I would love to own many cars just for the sake of letting people know what the experience will be like and also because I’m most hyped up about new vehicles, but reality kicks us hard right on the face and it’s not always possible. Yet, there are many out there who are waiting to either buy their first car or add another vehicle to their garage. Either way, if you are planning to buy one next year, here are the upcoming cars in 2022 that are worth waiting for. Since the list is very long, we have divided it into two parts.

  1. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

    2022 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

The new 2022 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is already unveiled in the international markets, and it has matured into a complete SUV rather than the crossover-stance it had before. It features a blacked-out grille with a glossy finish, LED headlamps, new bumpers and a silver skid plate. The powertrain options are expected to be the same 1.5-litre K-series Naturally-Aspirated petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. The 5-speed manual along with the 4-speed torque converter will most likely continue to perform the transmission duties.

    Expected Price: Rs.9-13 lakh(estimated)
Expected Launch: July 2022 or sooner.

  2. Maruti Suzuki Brezza

One of the most successful compact SUVs from the Suzuki’s stable is finally going through a generation update after the last facelift that transitioned it into a complete petrol unit. This time the manufacturer has decided to drop the “Vitara” from the name and is going with just “Brezza”. According to the spy shots, the Brezza will be one of the first Maruti Suzuki cars to get an electric sunroof. Apart from that, it is expected to get sleek LED projector headlamps, new alloy wheels, redesigned tail lamps, a new instrument cluster, a new infotainment screen with a 360-degree camera and supposedly a dual-zone climate control.

    Expected Price: Rs. 8-11.50 lakh(estimated)
    Expected Launch: June 2022

  3. Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is undoubtedly one of the highest selling hatchbacks in the business, and apart from the safety quotient, it is almost perfect. Classy looks, roomy interiors, spacious boot, and a fantastic engine made the Baleno such a great car. Now for the year 2022, it is getting a major update, and the spy shots can be seen above. Apart from the revised front fascia, it is expected to get new alloy wheels, a new touchscreen infotainment system, repositioned aircon vents, and the steering wheel might be borrowed from the new Swift. It will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 82bhp and 113Nm of torque, and the transmission duties also will be carried over by the same 5-speed manual or the CVT automatic transmission.

    Expected Price: Rs. 6.2-9.5 lakh(estimated)
    Expected Launch: Jan 2022

It is expected to come with a new body-on-frame chassis, similar to the Thar and on the interior, it will get a host of features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, cruise control, a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, smartphone connectivity, and a wireless charging pad. In terms of safety, it will be equipped with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP with rollover mitigation, and hill-hold assist.

  5. Toyota Hilux

    Toyota Hilux
    Toyota Hilux

The Toyota Hilux is one of the best-selling pickup trucks globally and is more or less the pickup version of the Fortuner. It did make sense for Toyota to not launch it until now since India was not ready for pickup trucks, especially those that cost upwards of Rs.20lakh. Its only rival as of now will be the Isuzu Dmax V-Cross pickup. The Toyota Hilux will be equipped with either the 2.4-litre or 2.8-litre diesel engines from the Innova or Fortuner, albeit in a slightly different state of tune. Hopefully, it will come with both manual and automatic transmission with all-wheel drive as standard. The interiors will be borrowed from the recently updated Fortuner and will have an all-black theme, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a JBL stereo system and leather upholstery.

    Expected Price: Rs. 25-35 lakh
    Expected Launch: January 2022

  6. Kia Carens

    Kia Carens
    Kia Carens

The Kia Carens is Kia’s version of the Hyundai Alcazar, but we must say that it does look very different. The powertrain options for the Carens will be sourced from the Seltos, which means it will get a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine with iMT and a DCT automatic transmission, a 1.5-litre oil burner with manual and automatic transmission and a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission. Since this is a Kia, you know the features list will be way too long. It is expected to come with an electric one-touch tumble down function for easy access to the 3rd row, 64-colour ambient lighting, single-pane electric sunroof, roof-mounted vents for the second and third row, and an air purifier. On the safety front, it is one of the first cars in India to get 6-airbags as standard right from the base variant. It also gets disc brakes on all wheels as standard, ABS with EBD, TPMS, and rear parking sensors.

    Expected Price: Rs. 15-20 Lakh
    Expected Launch: February 2022

  7. Toyota Belta

The Toyota Belta is just the rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The powertrain options will be the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103 bhp and 138Nm of torque along with a 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter. The features too will be carried over with projector headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, rear parking camera, ABS with EBD and automatic climate control.

In its fourth generation, it gets a revised front fascia which has a new grille with integrated LED DRLs, sharper body cladding, new 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, an LED strip that runs the width of the boot. On the inside, it gets a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, all-black upholstery, touch-sensitive AC controls, ambient lighting and voice commands. It is expected to be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engine present on the current model.

    Expected price: Rs. 23-28 Lakh
Expected Launch: June 2022 or sooner

  9. Hyundai Venue Facelift

The upcoming Hyundai Venue will only be a facelift version, which means the major change will be the front fascia and maybe a slightly redesigned rear end. Apart from these, everything else is expected to be the same on the outside and the inside. It might get the all-digital instrument cluster seen on the new i20, but there is no confirmation on that yet. The engine options also will be carried over from the previous model and will include the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The transmission units will consist of a 5-speed manual, 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT.

On the outside, it gets the signature split headlamp design that is divided by a two-slat chrome grille. The dual-tone bumpers get brushed aluminium skid plates. You get dual-tone alloy wheels, and wrap-around LED taillights. On the inside, you get a dual-tone interior with a black dashboard and funky orange-coloured inserts. Feature-wise, it gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a completely digital instrument console, a flat-bottom steering wheel with steering-mounted controls, and silver accents on the dashboard.

The exterior gets Octavia-inspired projector headlamps, the signature butterfly grille, fog lights, multi-spoke alloy wheels, and wrap-around LED taillights. 13. Volkswagen Virtus

    Volkswagen Virtus
    Volkswagen Virtus

The Volkswagen Virtus is a redesigned Skoda Slavia, just like the VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq cousins. So the underpinnings will be the same MQB A0 IN platform, and the engines also will be the same as the Taigun, Slavia and Kushaq. This means it will come equipped with either 1.0-litre or 1.5-litre turbo petrol units mated to either manual or automatic transmissions. Expected Price: Rs. 9-12 Lakh
    Expected Launch: April 2022

  14. Hyundai New Kona

Internationally, the Kona has been updated with a new model and a special sporty N-Line model as well. While the N-line model will not be coming to our shores anytime soon, the latest and updated model will be coming soon enough. However, not much is known at the moment except that visually, the new Hyundai Kona gets a wider stance and a shark-inspired nose that gives the model a sleeker look. The updated DRLs give it a high-tech, sophisticated style. Furthermore, the redesigned front skid plate and bumper add to its armoured appearance.

    Expected Price: Rs. 23-25 Lakh
    Expected Launch: April 2022

  15. Hyundai Creta Facelift

    Hyundai Creta Facelift
    Hyundai Creta Facelift

The Hyundai Creta, with the generation update it received in 2020, managed to sweep everyone off their feet, and it was for many months the highest selling SUV, and it even managed to sell more than the Compact SUVs. It can be called India’s favourite SUV, and the fact that it is getting a facelift is music to one’s ears. Since this is a facelift and not a generation update, the engine and transmission options will remain the same. What’s new is the updated front fascia that borrows the beautiful grille from Hyundai Tucson that has integrated LED DRLs on either side. The taillights are also slightly redesigned, and the interiors get new upholstery, fully-digital instrument cluster, and the best part might be the inclusion of the ADAS safety suite.

    Expected Price: Rs. 11-18 Lakh
    Expected Launch: April 2022
