Upcoming Electric Cars in India

Electric cars are getting popular in India, with increasing buyers throughout the country. Overall electric vehicles are gaining massive popularity, be it cars or even 2 & 3 wheelers; as the market grows, brands are planning new launches for the customers. So let’s take a look at some upcoming electric cars in India:

Kia Niro EV

This car is one of the most popular crossovers in Europe, and the second generation of the Niro was revealed at the 2021 Seoul Motor Show with a new design inside out. It might come to India by 2023 as an electric car.

Unlike other Hyundai & Kia cars, it will not share the E-GMP platform; instead, it might be inspired by the HabaNiro concept. It is expected to have multiple powertrains; however, the EV version might be equipped with a 64kWh battery with a 454-kilometre range.

Tata Tiago EV

While Tata is already leading in the electric vehicle market with their Nexon EV & Tigor EV, they are planning for more. Now, they will focus on an affordable EV to capture more market. The Tiago is expected to come with an electric powertrain.

It is expected to be the most affordable electric car in the market and will share features and technical aspects with the Tigor EV. Tiago EV is expected to have a price of around ₹10 lakhs with a range of about 300 kilometres.

Skoda Enyaq iV

This will be Skoda’s first electric car in India; this electric crossover is offered in five variants abroad: 50, 60, 80, 80X, and vRS. Internationally it is provided with the following battery packs: 52kWh, 58kWh, and 77kWh with both RWD & AWD drivetrains and a range up to 510 kilometres.

The India-spec version might be offered with only a single battery pack with a driving range of around 450 kilometres. It uses a 125kW fast charger that charges the car to 80% in 38 minutes. Its expected price will be about ₹60 lakhs ex-showroom.

While we are familiar with the XC40 recharge, this electric car might be different. It will share the platform with its sibling XC40 recharge, with a dual-motor setup making 408hp and 660Nm.

It has the same 78kWh battery pack but a WLTP-certified range of 420 kilometres. This electric car can support fast charging up to 150kW, replenishing the battery from 0 to 80% in under 40 minutes.

Mahindra eKUV100

The last electric car on our list is the electric version of the KUV100. While this car might not have caught up with an IC engine despite offering a decent package, Mahindra will launch it as an EV soon. The expected price would be around ₹8 lakhs ex-showroom.

While the commercial variant gets a 15.9kWh battery pack with an electric motor rated at 54hp and 120Nm, it receives a range of around 150 kilometres. It can be charged up to 80% in 55 minutes with a fast charger and offers features such as cabin pre-cooling, location tracking, remote diagnostics, and driver pattern monitoring.
