Volkswagen Virtus Spied Undisguised, India Launch?

It’s time for German carmaker Volkswagen to introduce its 2021 line-up for India. The brand has also been testing a new mid-size sedan, which could act as a replacement for the current-gen Vento.

The new mid-size sedan in talks is the Volkswagen “Virtus” which will rival the likes of the current-gen Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Skoda Rapid. This will also be the first time in about 10 years that Volkswagen will be launching a new car.

Much recently an undisguised mule of the Virtus was spied testing on Indian roads, which indicated that Volkswagen could launch it sooner than expected. However, the test mule was a left-hand drive model. This could also mean that Volkswagen might be testing it for a different market.

Will it get a new engine?

  • According to leading media reports, the new Vento replacement will feature the 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol unit.
  • The same engine does its job on the Volkswagen Vento and produces 108 hp with a peak torque of 175 Nm.

  • We may also get to see a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine producing 150hp of power and 250Nm of peak torque while paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

What’s on the feature end?

  • The Volkswagen Virtus will is expected to have a long feature list that includes a massive 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all-digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, connected car tech etc.
  • While the 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, TPMS, front and rear parking sensors and driver fatigue monitor as standard.

India Launch?

  • If everything goes well, it is being said that Volkswagen might introduce its new mid-size sedan by the end of this year.
  • However, if not this year, we can surely expect to see the Virtus by early 2022 with the Volkswagen Taigun.
