Volvo XC40 Recharge Launched | First Electric SUV

China-owned and Sweden based automaker Volvo unveiled its first fully electric car, The Volvo XC40 Recharge on 16th October 2019. Volvo is working under a new EV-focused brand that kicks off a company-wide shift toward electrification. The Swedish carmaker plans to introduce a new fully electric car every year to increase 50% of its global sales by 2025.

Volvo XC40 Recharge | Highlights

• The Volvo XC40 Recharge is a modified version of Volvo’s fast-selling XC40 compact crossover. The Sports Utility EV trades the four-cylinder combustion engine for a 75KW which is capable of producing 408 hp and 600 Nm of torque.
• The XC40 Recharge can go from 0 to 100kph in 4.7 seconds.
• Using Volvo’s 150KW DC propriety fast-charging system, the battery can charge from 0% to 80% in just 40 minutes. The car can also be charged using an 11KW AC charger.
• The XC40 Recharge comes with an all-wheel-drive powertrain and can travel more than 400 kilometres in one charge, according to WLTP or Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure which is the European standard to measure energy consumption and emissions.
• Feature-wise, the XC40 Recharge gets a new infotainment system which supports Volvo’s digital connected services platform, Volvo On Call and is powered by Google’s Android OS.
• Although the XC40 Recharge is identical to a standard XC40 SUV, there are subtle changes in the form of the ‘Recharge’ badge on the boot lid and a revised grille on the front. The traditional petrol cap has now been replaced by the charging port, which is located on the rear pillar of the car.
• The Volvo XC40 Recharge will rival other electric crossovers from car manufacturers like Audi, Jaguar and Tesla.
• Volvo could launch the XC40 Recharge in India as early as next year. However, the price for the Indian variant has not been specified yet but it could range between ₹23-27 Lakhs same as that of Hyundai Kona which is India first long-range electric SUV.
