Volkswagen Virtus GT Sedan Teased For India

Volkswagen has confirmed the replacement of the Vento, and it will be known as the Virtus. Just after the launch of the Skoda Slavia, which is set to light up the sedan segment now, VW will be revealing its sibling soon. They have teased the GT variant revealing subtle details of the sedan.

Let’s see what we know:

  • Engine & Transmission

    The Virtus will share the same powertrain as Slavia going along with VW-Skoda’s 2.0 India plan. There will be two engines on offer; a smaller 1.0-litre TSI engine churning out 115hp & 175Nm of torque.

    And a bigger 1.5-liter engine making 150hp & 250Nm of torque will also be on offer. The latter one will also be equipped with cylinder-deactivation tech to enhance fuel efficiency while cruising. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be available with both engine options. While with the automatic transmission, there will be a 6-speed torque converter and a 7-speed DCT transmission.

  • GT trim to be the Top Variant

    While the complete variant lineup is still unknown, the teaser reveals some hints of the top-spec GT variant. This will be sitting on the top of the lineup, and we can expect a similar pattern as the Taigun GT variant.

    The teaser reveals the GT badging on the Virtus, and we might also have a different design of alloys. Like the Taigun, the GT variant might only be available with the 1.5-liter engine with both manual & automatic transmissions.

    The Virtus will be the fourth model based on the MQB-A0-IN platform and more extensive than the Vento with class-leading dimensions & features like the Slavia. It will be sharing components with Slavia and Taigun.

  • Rivals


    The SUVs have overpowered the sedan segment. Compact SUVs & mid-sized SUVs have taken over both hatchbacks and sedans, but the competition in the sedan segment. Among the rivals, the Virtus will have cars such as Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

    In the meantime, VW will be phasing out the Polo & Vento and discontinuing the production and sales this year. There is no word about a replacement of the Polo, but the Virtus will be revealed on 8th March 2022.
