The Ministry of Roads and Highways has recently updated the prevailing registration plate rules to avoid any confusion or fraudulent activities. These updates are made after the 1989 amendment.

According to the new update, it'll be an offence to drive a replacement automobile with a paper-printed temporary license number. 

Now on a short-lived registration plate will have red letters and numerals on a yellow background. While a dealer vehicle is going to be required to carry a plate with white letters on a red background. Electric vehicle owners can still use their previous number plate which consisted of yellow letters/numerals on a green background.

The Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the nodal ministry, has formulated strict specifications and enforcement rules for the new High-Security Registration Plates (new number plates). The states have recently started introducing them in a phased manner. This standardization, alongside strict enforcement, is predicted to cause a change in enforcement and within the registration process of vehicles within the country.
