The 2020 Hyundai Elantra was unveiled back in October 2019 and only the petrol version made some sense according to the automaker considering the upcoming BS6 norms. New information suggests that Hyundai is working on a diesel engine for the Elantra as well. The 2020 Hyundai Elantra will share its engine from the Kia Seltos. The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine which will be BS6 compliant (obviously) will churn out the same power as it does on the Kia Seltos.

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra will deliver 115hp and 250Nm of torque which is really worth in case of a premium sedan delivering the same figures as the powerful SUVs. Just like the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta, the Elantra will also get a 6-speed gearbox which will be available in both manual and automatic versions.
The already existing version of the premium sedan has an engine which is a 1.6-litre diesel engine which produces 128hp and 260Nm. This power figure is considered as an underpowered one for this class. It will be challenging for the 2020 Hyundai Elantra to survive in the market but let’s see how Hyundai handles the situation!

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra diesel will have the same 3 variants as the petrol version. The manual gearbox will come with the S and the SX variants whereas the SX and the SX(O) will be offered with an automatic gearbox as well. The features on the new Hyundai Elantra are also expected to be same as the petrol counterpart.

The BS4 version of the Hyundai Elantra diesel was priced between Rs 15.13-20.05 lakh. We can expect the 2020 Hyundai Elantra diesel BS6 version to be priced between 15-21 lacs. The pricing will be a competition for the Honda Civic that will also be available in the diesel version. BS6 is coming soon and the automakers have planned well for the era.
