After the launch of Hector and ZS EV, the Chinese-owned British carmaker, MG got a really positive response. The MG ZS EV recorded 2,400 bookings within the first month of its launch. Eying the Indian market, the company has decided to level up the game.
According to the reports, MG might launch its ZS in a petrol avatar in the Indian market. After 2 car launches planned for the year 2020 namely MG Hector plus and Gloster, the company may plan to launch the other counterpart next year.
Powertrain and transmission | MG ZS
In the international market, MG ZS comes with two petrol engine options.
- A 1.5-Litre naturally-aspirated engine that puts out 104bhp of power and about 141Nm of torque.
- The other engine option is a 1.0-Litre turbo petrol engine which produces about 109bhp of power and 160Nm of torque.
- In both cases, the engine powers the front wheels only via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
- It is to be noted that the naturally-aspirated engine has really good 0-100kmph timing. To be precise the car pulls from 0 to 100kmph in just 10.9 seconds. Whereas the other engine takes around 12.4 seconds.
- The turbo petrol engine beats the other engine in terms of top speed. 180kmph for the turbo engine and 175kmph for the naturally-aspirated one.
Design | Exterior, and Interior
The petrol ZS is not different from the EV in India.
- MG ZS gets a smart front look with swept-back headlamps which houses a projector for better light dispersion.
- The front has a two-part grille the upper one being bigger so that the car breaths better.
- At the rear, it is simple yet elegant. The vehicle comes with well-styled tail lamps.
- This time around the car has an exhaust pipe at the rear which the EV missed. Obviously!
- We can expect the car to come with the same interior at the EV with some changes here and there.
Rivals
The MG ZS will pitch against the class-leading cars the Hyundai Creta, KIA Seltos and many upcoming cars. It all depends on how MG prices the car this time around.
Expected Price: Starting at around ₹11 Lakhs (ex-Showroom)
