Let’s say you have to travel almost 70-80kms a day and you own a petrol or diesel car. Just calculate how much would you need to spend on your fuel expenses irrespective of how great your car’s mileage might be! In today’s featured, we are going to have a look at the best mileage CNG cars available in India. All of us know that Maruti Suzuki currently has the mare CNG cars on sale than any other brand so it won’t be surprising at all to find a lot of Marutis in this list. Still, let’s have a look at each car with detailed mileage figure!
-
Maruti Suzuki WagonR (32.52km/kg)
Leading the way is India’s favourite tallboy hatch. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is the most-sold CNG car in India! Be it a commercial or a private vehicle, there is a very high chance that every WagonR that you see on the Indan roads is a CNG car! Maruti’s S-CNG technology has made this car an absolute favourite among those who have to travel more on daily basis. WagonR has a claimed CNG mileage of 32.52km/kg!
-
Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 (31.59km/kg)
Following its sibling, we have the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800. Another very popular car which makes a perfect fit for a small family. This one also gets the proprietary S-CNG technology which you may call the company fitted CNG. While the CNG fuel option is available only with a manual transmission, you can expect a mileage of 31.59km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (31.2km/kg)
As we already told you, this list has a majority of Marutis, we have another one in the third place. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and was launched later. Although this car is highly questionable in terms of safety, Indians continue to buy it anyhow. The S-Presso is said to deliver 31.2km/kg.
-
Maruti Suzuki Celerio (31km/kg)
Surviving in the market without even getting a facelift is a really tough job! Well, the Celerio has been doing it for over 5 years now. Celerio has also got the S-CNG technology which helps the customers to cut down their fuel costs really well. Therefore, it is also on our list of best mileage CNG cars. The Celerio CNG is known to deliver around 31km/kg.
-
Hyundai Santro (29km/kg)
This was the first time when Hyundai decided to compete against Maruti and tried their hand out at the company fitted CNG technology. If you are one of those who say that Maruti’s S-CNG cars lack features, Hyundai has got just the right thing for you. They have the Santro Sportz CNG which is feature-packed and delivers 29km/kg.
-
Hyundai Aura (28km/kg)
Sadly, Maruti has discontinued the CNG technology for the Dzire. This is where Hyundai hit the nail just in the right place. The Hyundai Aura is the only compact sedan currently available in the market which gets a company-fitted CNG kit. We know that the Dzire still sells in the CNG variant for commercial use but it won’t be a fair deal to consider it here. The Hyundai Aura CNG delivers 28km/kg.
-
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (26km/kg)
The only MPV that is available in the market which is available with the S-CNG technology. Although if you have 7 people travelling and run this car on CNG, you will definitely feel the power lag the Ertiga S-CNG is definitely worth it if you want to save on your fuel expenses. It has all that you need where CNG comes as an added advantage! You can expect a mileage of around 26km/kg.
-
Maruti Eeco (20.88km/kg)
This vehicle continues to be in almost every list where we count achievements. For our list of most fuel-efficient CNG cars, we have the Eeco on the list because it is always among the most sold vehicles in India and the CNG variant is most probably the one in demand. The claimed mileage for Eeco CNG is around 20.88km/kg.
These were the 8 best mileage most fuel-efficient CNG cars in India. If you want to save huge on your fuel expenses, one of these might be your pick for sure. For those wondering if they have a petrol car and want to save on fuel expenses, we have something for you.

I have an Eeco (CNG) and am quite happy with it for what it provides me with – reliable, dependable inner-city transport, if one over looks its inherent fragile nature (we ran a Scorpio for 14+ years before the Eeco).
I also thought it was fuel efficient, consistently returning 13-15 km/kg of CNG. It has been
routinely maintained at Anand Motors, Maruti’s own ASS here in Lucknow.
But after reading the above I feel that Maruti (and perhaps Hyundai and others too) publish these “kheyali pulao” imaginary FE figures (ARAI tested??) to lead the public up the garden path!
Why is it so difficult for mfrs to publish real world FE figures instead of giving riders like like ” under test conditions” etc?
Hi Shashanka,
The figures mentioned by manufacturers are the ones obtained in an ideal condition. Under-test conditions can vary from user to user, which cannot be used as a standard across the industry.
I love my wagon r
Your blog is so much grateful and useful. I found useful information in your blog.
if you also give a price list in your blog. you are much useful.
Isn’t CNG dangerous or in an accident there are chances of it exploding
There are very less chances of exploding if you have the correct installation. In fact, CNG has a higher ignition temperature than petrol so out of the two, petrol is expected to catch fire first.
But CNG is not available at all places.LPG is somewhat available.I feel it’s better than CNG.I have my WagonR Duo.Its fine.
Hi Janardhan
Agreed, CNG is not available in all cities so you can go for LPG. For a detailed comparison, we will be back with a new article really soon.
Mujhe dizayr me cng lagvani he kon si commpni ki lagvau sicvensar kit

I want to fit CNG in my Vitara Brazza BS6. What is your views. Can I go for it.
Hi Pradeep Just to let you know, you cannot get CNG endorsed on your RC therefore, I won’t recommend going for CNG. Otherwise, you can go for BRC
HI Vishal,hi.we are tall family, all are above 6 travel necessity of around 600km per month, long ride of 1000kms once a year, car need for 3-4 max, need boot space, also looking at long term car for retirement-no selling for the next 8-10 years, also should be less service and spares -Retiring next year no pension, max budget 10 L,thought of ertiga cng .please advise .
Hi Srinidhi
Reading your comment, I realised that you definitely need a 7-seater car but if you go for Ertiga CNG, you will have to compromise on boot space which won’t be a good thing for long road trips. Also, CNG is not that helpful on long road trips because you don’t find CNG stations that easily. Considering all these factors, I would suggest going for Ertiga petrol (not CNG)
Why cng cars can’t be with fitted ivt or amt? Even can’t the gas cylinder be made of different shape fitting around the boot space leaving middle part of luggage ?
Hi Suraj, it’s not like CNG can’t be fitted in amt or ivt cars. It’s just that you don’t get the results you want by fitting CNG with automatic gearboxes.
What about Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS CNG ?
Both Aura and i10 Nios are exactly the same car with same engine and i10 Nios being smaller hatchback, it’s CNG mileage is so low.Even Hyundai is quiet on this too. ARAI Claimed mileage for i10 Nios CNG is just 19km/kg .Is it possible to have that much low mileage on CNG?
Please help me asap.
Hi Atul,
the mileage completely depends upon how refined the kit is and how well the engine has coupled with it.
Thanks for the suggestion..
hi,thanks,if it is not cng, then why should i prefer a big vehicle like Ertiga ,can always go for smaller vehicles in the range of 6-8 lakhs. Can you suggest the right one,for 3-4 travel – for 500-600kms monthly
Hi Srinidhi You mentioned that you have a family of 7-8 people which is why I suggested going for Ertiga. The reason why I suggested not to go for CNG is you mentioned you need to go on road trips which will require you to keep luggage as well.
Hi Vishal, thank you for a very crisp article on the most sort after topic. I own a skoda fabia, 10 years old. What is your opinion on converting it to CNG.
Hi Dr. Manjiri
Considering your 10 year old Fabia, CNG won’t be a good decision. Two major factors – It’s old and its Skoda rule out the possibility of installing CNG anyhow.
Hi Vishal, How succesful woiudl a CNG kit be on an Toyota ETIOS 2012 . and if yes which kit is best suited ? What is your opinio of M SEQUENT KITS . wHAT WOUYLD BE MILEAGE with CNG . Which SEDAN is otherwise best suioted for a CNG with a good safety rating
Hi Vinit
MSequent is an Indian kit and sorry to say, make in India doesn’t work really well here. If you want to save some buck, go for Tomasetto Achille Italy and if budget is not a constraint here, you can go for Lovato

CNG comes with alternative fuel as petrol right in ertiga?
Yes Vijay, it does!
Hi Vishal,
I saw one of your suggestion says go for Ertiga petrol instead of CNG for long drives as CNG stations are difficult to find.
CNG cars comes with alternative fuel option as petrol right?
Hi Vijay
CNG cars do come with an option of petrol. But to enjoy the long drive and have the luggage in place, I might have suggested going for petrol. Also, who likes stopping that frequently to refuel anyway!
Sir ,l purchased spresso 6 months ago, recently cng introduced in my city I want to know which cng kit will be best for my car.
Hi Wahid,
You can go for BRC’s sequential CNG kit. If you want a cheaper option, go for Eco Green
Hi Vishal I want to own dzire zxi cng… What would be it’s exact milage.. Daily I travel 50 kms.. Pl suggest
