Skoda Slavia | 5 Things That You Should Know

Skoda seems to be riding high with the success of its most recently launched Kushaq. It has kept the cash registers ringing with enormous amounts of bookings and it already has a waiting period of up to 2 months. Since everything seems to be going according to plan, Skoda is planning its next step, which is to launch a C-segment Sedan. Here are 5 things to know about the upcoming Skoda Slavia sedan.

  1. Launch timeline

Skoda released a teaser image of the upcoming Slavia, a few days ago. According to reports, Skoda has plans of unveiling the sedan in the coming months before the end of the year and will start official deliveries in the first quarter of 2022. This is in tandem with Skoda’s plans as they had announced at the beginning of 2021. Skoda and VW will develop 4 new models (2 each) specifically for the Indian market under the India 2.0 project and hence developed the MQB-A0-IN platform that these vehicles will be based on.

  2. Mechanical details

Mechanically, it is said to come with the same underpinnings as the Skoda Kushaq. This means it will be based on the modular MQB-A0-IN platform. The Skoda Kushaq is yet to be crash tested and hence its safety quotient is unknown. Yet Skoda says it is one of the safest cars in the market. The engine options also are expected to remain the same with the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines to serve duty on the Skoda Slavia.

  3. Features

You can expect Skoda to bring in all the latest features, gadgets and gizmos on the Slavia. It will probably be one of the most feature-rich and sophisticated cabins in its segment. Features like automatic climate control, wireless charging, and a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay are expected to take centre stage. It may also come with a host of connected car technology and an all-digital instrument cluster.
Safety also seems to be of high priority with features like ABS with EBD and ESP standard across all variants. The higher models might come equipped with 6 airbags, hill-hold control, electronic diff lock, multi-collision braking, rollover protection, hydraulic brake boosting and brake disc wiping as seen on Skoda Kushaq.

  4. Price

The prices are expected to be the same as the Skoda Kushaq which ranges from the 12-18 lakh ex-showroom. That is not competitive but reasonable pricing when you compare it to the other C-segment sedans in India.

  5. Rivals

Looking at the segment and pricing it is being introduced, its direct rivals are Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Volkswagen Vento. The segment-first features and the potent turbo-petrol engines should make the Skoda Slavia stand out from its competition. This is a huge gamble as the C-segment sedan market is tumbling down for a few years and yet Skoda is betting big on the Slavia. If the Slavia sells well, then it is not a win just for Skoda but also for the C-segment sedans in India.

Many of us initially thought that the Slavia will be the replacement for Skoda Rapid but looks like Skoda has other plans. Skoda is introducing the Slavia between the Rapid and the Octavia and the design language will be inspired by the Octavia and Superb. This means it will be more premium than its competitors like the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

We believe the sedan segment will be more suited for the engines that are being introduced by Skoda and hence will be much more fun to drive. Let us know what you think about the upcoming Skoda Slavia and what should be present in this car to make it a success.
