Reasons Carmakers Might Discontinue Diesel Engines

In 2020, vehicles became more expensive and environmentally friendly due to the switch to stricter BS6 emission norms. This was when the stricter emission norms forced the carmakers in the country to manufacture vehicles that produced relatively controlled emissions. Another thing to note is that BS6 emission norms were supposed to be implemented in two phases. The first phase was implemented in April 2020, and the next phase was planned to be implemented in April 2023.

As the date is a few months away, this might change the production strategies of many companies. And last time, many companies pulled the plug on their diesel engines. So, is this time when the other carmakers will discontinue diesel engines? Honda used to offer only one diesel engine across all the cars. It is a 1.5-litre turbo diesel that is capable of generating peak power of 100ps and 200Nm of torque. On the other hand according to the exclusive report by AutoCarIndia, Hyundai will end the production of the i20 with diesel engines in the country.
