The brand-new eighth-generation BMW 5 Series has finally been released in India. As we already said, it is only available in the long wheelbase (LWB) version. The 5 Series LWB costs Rs 72.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes to the country via the CBU way.
This new LWB launch makes BMW the only luxury car brand in India with three long-wheelbase sedans in its portfolio. The other BMW with LWB versions available are the 3 series LWB and the 7 Series LWB.
The new 5 series LWB will be available in a single 530Li M Sport variant, deliveries will begin in September this year.
BMW 5 Series LWB: Dimensions
Length: 5,175mm
Width: 1,900mm
Height: 1,520mm
Wheelbase: 3,105mm
Dimensions Compared to Some Rivals:
Length | Width | Height | Wheelbase | |
BMW 5 Series LWB | 5,175mm | 1,900mm | 1,520mm | 3,105mm |
Mercedes E Class LWB | 5,092mm | 1,880mm | 1,493mm | 3,094mm |
Audi A6 | 4,939mm | 1,886mm | 1,457mm | 2,924mm |
Lexus ES300H | 4,975mm | 1,865 mm | 1,445 mm | 2,870 mm |
Volvo S90 | 4,969mm | 1,879mm | 1,440mm | 2,941mm |
It can easily be observed that the BMW 5 Series LWB is the largest sedan in the segment. It is even larger than the upcoming next-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long-wheelbase in all aspects. The size of the new 5-series can be compared to the larger previous-gen 7-series which had a length of 5,120mm.
The new 5 Series is larger by 84mm when compared to the BMW 6 Series GT, the car which it replaces.
Design
The 5 Series LWB hss an all-black kidney grille, which is now illuminated like in some more expensive BMWs. The grille is encased in golden bezel housing which makes the car look more futuristic. The 18-inch alloy wheels have been a talking point for the car. The alloys have a star pattern giving the car a more sophisticated look. The tires have a very high side profile wich makes them look a bit too small for the car with such a big dimension.
The front upswept lights give the car some resemblance to some older E60 5-series models. Despite its massive dimensions, the vehicle’s 5 Series designation remains discernible thanks to the stamped ‘5’ on the C-pillar. On the back, you’ll see the stylish tri-LED taillights in a wraparound design. The bumper is sporty, with an all-black diffuser, quad-tip exhaust, and golden bezels that match the front grille.
