The ARAI certified mileage for the BS6 Hyundai Santro has been stated as 20kmpl! Let’s have a look at how this hatch stands strong in the competition.

Hyundai Santro got the BS6 update in January 2020. The 1.1-litre engine on the hatch was upgraded to comply with the latest emission norms. The new BS6 compliant engine continues to produce 69hp and 99Nm as it did in the BS4 avatar. However, the BS6 Hyundai Santro’s fuel economy is 0.3kpl less than that what it used to deliver in the BS4 avatar.
The BS6 Hyundai Santro competes with Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the evergreen WagonR. Be it fuel economy or any other aspect, this entry-level hatch is facing tough competition from the rivals! Datsun GO was also one of the competitors but Datsun has not upgraded it yet hence, we didn’t mention it here.

Considering the competitor’s details, we see that Maruti Suzuki WagonR takes the lead in terms of fuel economy. The ARAI certified fuel mileage for WagonR is 21.79kpl for the 1.0-litre variant in both manual and automatic forms. This is almost 2kpl more than what the Hyundai Santro gets! The claimed fuel economy for the BS6 Hyundai Santro is 20kpl only.

The 1.2-litre version of the WagonR and the Celerio also outdo the BS6 Hyundai Santro in terms of fuel economy. The former delivers 20.52kpl while the latter is capable of delivering 21.63kpl! The fact is clear that Maruti Suzuki cars are the clear winners in the mileage game! This is why it is the most preferred car brand in India!
