Polluting the environment, the vehicles on road need to have some restrictions on exhaust emissions. These emission norms differ from county to country. BS or Bharat Stage norms are the norms in India. According to the latest emission norm change, BS6 will be implemented from 1st of April this year. Let’s see how different bs6 is from euro6 (bs6 vs euro6)
BS6 | Emission norms
The recent changes in the emission norms are from BS4 to BS6 which will be implemented next month. It is termed as the huge technical jump as BS5 was skipped in between. The emission norms changed from BS4 in 2017 to BS6 in 2020 (3 years). Both automobiles as well as oil companies are affected as they have double the work to do.

European Emission Standards Stage 6
These are the 6th up-gradation of the emission norms in Europe and was implemented in September 2014. Euro6 was implemented to reduce the harmful pollutants from the vehicles’ exhaust gasses. These include the reduction of NOx (Nitrogen Oxides), SOx (Sulphur Oxides), COx (Carbon Oxides) from both diesel as well as petro engines and PM (particulate matter) from diesel engines.
Unlike in India Euro6 exhaust emission norms came in a sequence. The first euro emission norm Euro1 was implemented in 1992 for passenger cars and light trucks. The latest exhaust emission norms are Euro6d which is a slight upgrade over Euro6.
