Citroen C3X Crossover Sedan: First Spy Shots Surface

The automotive world is abuzz with the first sighting of Citroen’s C3X, the high-riding crossover sedan hot on the heels of its sibling, the C3 Aircross, which debuted globally earlier this year. The French automobile manufacturer seems to have an ambitious roadmap for India, as they gear up to offer the C3X as a direct, yet more affordable rival to the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

The clandestine spy shots provide a tantalizing glimpse of what could be Citroen’s next big offering. Despite the heavy camouflage, the overall shape and proportions subtly hint towards a unique, fastback-inspired design, making the C3X a compelling blend of a sedan’s elegance and an SUV’s robustness.

Citroen C3X: A Spy’s Eye View

It’s noteworthy that the vehicle, captured in the spy shots, appears to be in the nascent stages of development. While the body panels seem to retain their form, the front and rear sections don’t appear production-ready yet. A careful examination, however, divulges several tell-tale signs of this being Citroen’s next product.

The Citroen C3X test mule displays striking similarities with the upcoming C3 Aircross SUV, hinting at a shared DNA. Several body panels, including the front doors and front fenders, might be borrowed from the sibling, however, the C3X deviates with a distinct design past the rear door. The sloping roof and raked rear windscreen evoke a fastback-like look, a departure from the SUV’s design.

As for the interiors, the C3X is likely to align closely with the C3 Aircross. Economies of scale might dictate the retention of the SUV’s cabin design, with minor differences in upholstery shades and some interior panels.

Unveiling More Details about the Citroen C3X

The C3X, confirmed to be Citroen’s third product built on the India-specific CMP modular platform, takes forward the legacy of the C3 hatchback and the upcoming C3 Aircross SUV. The engine will be shared across the Citroen C3 models, i.e., a 110hp, 1.2-litre, turbo-petrol engine, paired with a manual and most likely, an automatic gearbox as well.

Echoing the global trend towards electrification, Citroen will reportedly develop an electric variant of the C3X, much like the eC3 and the soon-to-be-released eC3 Aircross. This addition will cater to the burgeoning demand for electric vehicles, enriching the product portfolio and fortifying Citroen’s foothold in India.

There are whispers that this new model may bear the name “Citroen C3X Fastlounge” upon its launch. Measuring roughly the same length as the C3 Aircross, the C3X will position itself as a slightly more affordable alternative to competitors like Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia.
