Fisker Ocean electric SUV confirmed for India launch

American carmaker Fisker Inc. has confirmed a limited edition of the Ocean electric SUV for the Indian market. The India-spec model will be called Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition, named after the company’s India HQ in Hyderabad that was set up last April. Let’s take a look at this SUV:

Battery & Range

Fisker will be bringing the electric SUV to India in its top-spec Extreme version, which will be limited to just 100 units. It gets a 113kWh battery pack with electric motors producing 572hp and 737Nm torque. The company claims a 0-100kph sprint time of under 4 seconds and a range of 707 kilometres on a single charge as per the WLTP cycle.

This is the highest claimed range of any electric SUV on sale in Europe as of now. The Ocean SUV carries sustainability as one of its key attributes, with vegan interiors and recycled carpets made from regenerated nylon, along with a solar panel on the roof to boost the range further.

Features & Pricing

This EV is well equipped in terms of features, with a 17.1-inch revolving touchscreen infotainment system, a digital rearview mirror, a powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera, a 3D surround sound system, and front & rear heated seats. It also gets ADAS features with 3 drive modes named Earth, Fun, and Hyper.

Fisker says that the prices in India might be aligned with the ones in Europe. It is priced at €69,950 in Germany, which approximately translates to ₹65 lakhs, but that is excluding import and logistics. Including the taxes and logistics, it might go above ₹1 crore along with the other premium EVs such as the Jaguar i-Pace, BMW iX, and Audi e-tron.

The company also considered setting up a battery and vehicle assembly plant in India if it received adequate support from the government. This might hint at future possibilities that could be explored in India, as their CEO, Henrik Fisker, stated: “India offers exciting opportunities for us, and we plan to grow our brand rapidly over the coming years.”
