Elantra was launched in October 2019, with four variants on the offer. But the time may not have been suitable for the launch, as the market was more inclined towards compact SUVs, and the sedans had fewer buyers. According to the recent observations, Hyundai has removed Elantra from their website. Let’s see why:
-
Elantra Discontinued?
This must have come as a surprise to the owners and other sedan fans that Hyundai abruptly delisted Elantra from their website. They made no announcements or communication before making this move. However, it can be explained due to the SUVs taking over the market.

The rising SUV trend might have been caused Hyundai to pull the plug on their premium sedan. This can also be a temporary move. As there is no official communication about this, we cannot jump to any conclusions.

Current Generation Specs
The Elantra has a price range from ₹15.89 to 20.39 lakhs when launched for the first time. It was powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine churning out 150hp & 192Nm of torque. This engine was mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Next Generation Launch?
The third-generation Elantra might be making its way to India with significant updates. The exterior might be reworked, keeping the current design philosophy intact but with sleeker, sporty elements.

It could be offered with various engine options such as an additional turbocharged petrol engine or with additional hybrid tech. The transmission options could be among a DCT or CVT gearbox to smoothen the ride quality further.
But any of this is not confirmed as no test mules of the newer generation have been spotted so far. Even if Hyundai decided to launch the updated gen in India, it might take a while. What do you think about Hyundai’s move?
