The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee has just broken covers and guess what, the actual good news is! The actual good news is that India will also receive the Grand Cherokee this time in 2022! Although this SUV will enter the Indian shoes through the CKD route, it is worth noting how this car can prove to be a great competition to the existing market players.
Jeep India is also planning on launching the 7-seater version of Compass very soon in India. When we have the Meridian in the Indian lineup, it would sit below the CKD Cherokee. Here is what the upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee will have on offer.
Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022 | What’s new?
The new 5-seater SUV looks quite similar to the Cherokee L. However, this one is 294mm shorter than the L. No doubt both models share looks but there are minor differences in the styling elements just like there are between the Compass and the Meridian. The highlights among all the design elements are active grille-shutters, air curtains and redesigned rear pillars that boost aerodynamic efficiency. This definitely looks to be a major upgrade from the previous-gen model.
On the inside, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has got a new 10.1-inch screen embedded in the dashboard, well, that’s quite unique if we talk but the Indian market. A central infotainment system of a similar size is also there along with the cockpit screen that is of a similar size range too. A 10-inch head-up display, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and rear-seat entertainment screens add on to the highlights inside the cabin of the upcoming SUV.
Engine & Power Specs
Under the hood, the upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee has a 290hp 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine that used to power the older generation of the Cherokee too and is also seen on the Wrangler. Another engine option in the lineup will be a 357hp 5.7-liter Hemi V8. Both these engines will be paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the SUV also gets Jeep’s 4xe technology and gets a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine coupled with twin electric motors and a Li ion battery. The American automaker will also offer the 4xe on the Trailhawk variant that comes with a two-speed transfer box, an electric limited-slip differential and Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system.

As we said above the Cherokee gets to enter India through the CKD route. It will be assembled at Jeep’s Ranjangaon plant along with the already existing Wrangler. We suppose that they will cater only the domestic need through this plan of action but who knows they might start exporting too! What do you think?
