After several spy images and test mule spotting, Jeep has finally announced the arrival of the Jeep Grand Cherokee in India. Here’s all you need to know about the launch.
Jeep Grand Cherokee India Debut
Releasing the first teaser of the India-bound Grand Cherokee SUV, Jeep has finally confirmed what spy shots and test mules were hinting. It’s official, the Grand Cherokee will launch in India with the OEM announcing prices by next month.
The SUV will be the brand’s first “Flagship” SUV in India and will be placed above the Meridian in the Indian market lineup. As for the price, we believe that the Grand Cherokee will be priced around Rs. 85 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom) onwards and can see deliveries starting as early as December. Hailed as one of the most awarded global SUVs, India bound Grand Cherokee will be the global model that debuted last year.

Grand Cherokee: Power, Transmission and Safety
While globally the Grand Cherokee comes with a 5.7 litre V8, 3.6 litre V6 and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, we believe, that the 2.0-litre turbo will be the one chosen for the Indian soil. Transmission-wise, the SUV will offer an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
For safety, the SUV will offer ADAS in India as is confirmed by the brand, along with that the SUV offer 4×4 and driving terrain modes including auto, mud/sand, snow and sports
What’s new for India?
What makes the Cherokee special for India is the fact that the SUV this time will be assembled in India, making the SUV the OEM’s fourth locally assembled vehicle. While the global Grand Cherokee is offered in two sizes, if reports are to be believed, the India-bound SUV will be offered only in the 5-seater avatar.
Rivals
Considering fierce competition in the SUV segment, the SUV will lock horns with the likes of luxury SUVs such as the Merc GLE, Land Rover Discovery, BMW X5 and even the Fortuner Legender to some extent.
