Introduction
Land Rover has crafted a beast again, “Defender Octa”. It is one of the most powerful, capable, and durable cars in the Land Rover’s portfolio and in the 4×4 segment. Emphasis has been put on the engine and the tyres, that serve Defender Octa as a perfect off-roading vehicle. It is all set to make a public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week, introducing two different editions. Price is starting from Rs 2.65 crore in India. Let’s delve deep into the specifications and details of this upcoming beast.
Defender Octa: Engine and Performance
The Defender Octa comes with a 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 engine that produces an extreme horsepower of 625, making it mere 4 seconds to reach a speed of 100kph. It is the same engine that was introduced in the BMW M5. The Defender Octa has a top speed of 250 kph. This performance goes along with the Range Rover SV and is 108hp stronger than the standard Defender V8.
Defender Octa: Chassis and Outerbody
The main focus was to enhance off-road capabilities simultaneously, maintaining adequate on-road performance. Keeping this a priority, the SUV has undergone brutal testing, including 13,960 tests, driven over 10 lakh km, from sand dunes to snow circuits to test the diversification.
The chassis of Defender Octa makes it stand out among previous models of Land Rover. It features the 6D dynamic suspension system which hydraulically links the dampers, ensuring cabin stability without a physical anti-roll bar. Moreover, the Octa possesses longer, tougher wishbones, endeavoring underbody protection, and the quickest steering rack of the Defender series yet.
Defender Octa: Off-Road Experience
The Beast Octa features all-new front and rear bumpers which help to increase the approach angle to 40 degrees, departure angle to 42 degrees, and break-over angle to 29 degrees. With an extreme ground clearance of 319mm, the ride height of the Octa elevates by 28mm compared to the Defender 110 V8. Additionally, the Octa comes with 2 snorkels that elevate its water-wading capacity to 1000mm.
To maximize the off-road performance, engineers have developed custom off-road tyres in collaboration with Goodyear. Specially designed 20-inch rims, these tyres acquire a unique pattern.
Defender Octa: Exterior & Interior
The Beast Octa comes with a bold and distinct appearance. An exclusive feature in Defender Octa is the Octa Mode button. A long press on Octa button enables Octa Mode, which is especially designed for off-roading experience with performance focus. Furthermore, It features exclusive alloy wheels, flared arches, and a higher ride. An open grille design and a diamond-shaped Octa badge on its C-pillar distinguish it from other Defender models. On the other hand, the interior of Octa highlights all-new 3D-knit textured performance seats with comfortable headrests. An 11.4-inch infotainment system with a center console fridge is a few additional highlights of the Octa’s interior.
Defender Octa: Standard Edition & One Edition
The Beast Octa comes in two different variants: Standard Edition and One Edition. The Edition one, the most difficult variant, possesses 20-inch wheels, top-tier off-road tyres, a rear ladder, and a roof box. It comes with carbon fiber detailing, Faroe Green paint, and a khaki interior. The price of One Edition is Rs 2.85 crores, whereas Standard Edition comes with a Rs 2.65 crores price tag.
Special Colors and Finishes
Special colors for the Octa include Petra Copper, Faroe Green, Carpathian Grey, and Charente Grey. Matte finishes with a protective film are also available, and these will be introduced to the standard Defender range later.
