The luxury automobile landscape in India has a new contender – the Lexus LM. In a surprising move, Lexus has unveiled its second-generation LM MPV (Luxury Mover) for the Indian market. If you’re a car aficionado or looking to indulge in a luxury ride, here’s everything you need to know about this latest offering.
The Indian Debut of Lexus LM
While the first-generation LM held its reigns exclusively in China, this unveiling marks the LM’s debut in India. The wait is over for those eager to get their hands on this luxury vehicle, as bookings have already commenced at Lexus Experience Centres and Meraki showrooms.
Design and Architecture
Borrowing the GA-K modular platform from Toyota, the second-gen Lexus LM shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Vellfire and other Toyota-Lexus models. But what truly catches the eye is its elegant design. The front features Lexus’ signature oversized grille, flanked by sleek LED headlamps and chic fog lamps in satin silver. The side profile showcases a significant glass area accentuated by a gentle kink at the B-pillar and soft creases that break the monotony of a straight slab-sided appearance. The rear sports a minimalist look, punctuated by a boomerang-inspired LED light bar. The LM strikes an imposing stance with dimensions of 5,130mm x 1,890mm x 1,945mm and options of 17-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels.
Luxury Taken to the Next Level
Setting itself distinctly apart from the Vellfire, the Lexus LM oozes luxury. Whether you opt for the 4-seater or the 7-seater variant, luxury is a given. The 4-seater version offers a partitioned space between the driver and passengers, airline-style recliner seats, an expansive 48-inch TV, a state-of-the-art 23-speaker surround system, and plush pillow-style headrests.
The vehicle doesn’t shy away from pampering its passengers with heated armrests, fold-out tables, multiple USB ports, wireless phone charging, personalised reading lights, vanity mirrors, and even a fridge! Privacy seekers will appreciate the dimmable glass panel, and the technologically advanced will love the voice control system tailored for rear passengers and the smartphone-style control panel that manages many functions.
Enhancing the serene environment, Lexus has emphasised noise reduction. A special headliner, noise-dampening wheels and tyres, and active noise control ensure a peaceful cabin experience. The digital rear-view mirror, panoramic-view monitor, and digital infotainment system promise a futuristic driving environment for drivers.
Under the Hood
The LM (350h) globally sports a 2.5-litre, self-charging hybrid engine, delivering a potent 250hp and 239Nm. A more robust LM500h variant is on the horizon. While the official announcement regarding the powertrain for the Indian market is pending, experts predict it to be the 350h – mirroring the Vellfire.
Our Take: Lexus LM in India
Lexus LM and Toyota Vellfire are carving a niche in the luxury MPV segment. With the Vellfire hovering around Rs 1.20 crore-1.30 crore, the LM, given its superior offerings, is expected to command a higher price.
The Lexus LM is set to satiate many appetites in a market hungry for luxury and unique automotive experiences. The Luxury Mover is here, promising to redefine grandeur on Indian roads.
