Yes, you read that right! Mahindra is all set to introduce a 2WD variant of the Mahindra Thar powered by its entry-level- 1.5L Diesel engine. This new entry-level Thar is expected to be sold beside the existing 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines.
- This has been done as it will help the Thar to qualify in the lower tax bracket as it is less than 4 meters in length.
- The new Mahindra Thar diesel will only be sold in the 2-wheel drive variant.
- Going by the test mule captured by our good friends at Autocar, it can be seen that the 1.5L diesel variant will have a low-range gear lever.
- Along with a lower gearbox, we will also get to see a revised center console.
- It is also speculated that we might as well see the 2.0-litre Turbo petrol variant in the 2WD format.
- With its launch, it will lock horns with the Force Gurkha and the soon-to-launch Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
- This entry-level Mahindra Thar will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo and will be launched shortly thereafter.
- It is expected to be priced between ₹9-10 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) and will take place of the Mahindra Thar AX which was discontinued last year due to fewer sales numbers.
Will you buy the new Mahindra Thar 1.5L Diesel despite the short lifeline of the Diesel engine and many carmakers now ditching the Diesel engine? Do let us know in the comment section below.
I would like to buy Thar Diesel version only if the rear seats are parallel aligned, like the previous version of Thar/Major had.
