Mahindra has started testing their first mainstream electric SUV. It is expected to hit the market by 2024 and is derived from the already running XUV300. The exact details aren’t revealed yet, but we expect the concept to be out by July 2022.

This might be a mid-size SUV with an electric powertrain. The eKUV100 was also spied testing undisguised last year. let’s see what we might get:

XUV400
XUV400 Spied A test mule was recently spied testing, and it reveals that the car is based on the compact SUV XUV300. A charging socket was also observed on the left fender, confirming that it is not an IC engine vehicle. This might be known as XUV400 when it is launched in the market.

As the mule was fully camouflaged, Mahindra revealed no design details. But we expect a closed front grille with blue accents similar to those spied on eKUV. The exact features arent out yet, but going with the concept at the Auto-Expo, it might be powered by a 350/380V battery pack.

Born Electric Vision
Mahindra eXUV300 Mahindra is planning to launch 8 new electric vehicles by 2027. out of which four will be EV versions of their already running SUVs. The rest will be based on a new “born electric” platform. They are also planning for a sub-brand for their electric vehicles.

This new line of SUVs underpinned by the new EV-specific platform will be designed by Mahindra’s UK-based division, Mahindra Advance Design Europe (MADE). This is headed by Pratap Bose, which tells us about the fantastic concepts we will soon be witnessing.

Rivals
The upcoming XUV400 will go against EVs such as the Nexon EV, ZS EV & Kona. The price range might be slightly higher than the current range of the Nexon EV. Till its launch; the competition is set to increase along with an extended range Nexon EV coming up.

The two variants with their respective 350v & 380V battery packs compete accordingly in their specific price range. We can expect a minimum range of 500 kilometers from the XUV400.
