Maruti Suzuki Announces Price Hike Across Its BS6 Line-up

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, has announced a price hike for its select models.

The company said that the cars sold through its Nexa and Arena channels will experience the price hike.

In its statement, the company mentioned that due to increased input costs the company took this step. Most of the cars were recently fitted with BS6 version engines, in order to comply with government norms.

The homegrown carmaker on Monday said the prices of its select models will be hiked by up to 4.7 per cent.

The price hike will be in effect starting 27th January 2020. The company said that the Maruti Suzuki cars will see a price hike of up to ₹10,000.

The company sells the Alto, WagonR, S-Presso, Swift and Ertiga through its Arena outlets which will be experiencing the burnt. From the Nexa outlets, the popular Maruti hatchback Baleno and the premium Maruti crossover XL6 will get costlier.

The Maruti Alto will see a hike of ₹6,000 to ₹9,000, S-Presso will be costlier by ₹1,500 to ₹8,000 and the WagonR will burn a hole worth ₹1,500 to ₹4,000 extra in your pocket.

On the other hand, Ertiga will be ₹4,000 to ₹10,000 costlier and the Baleno by up to ₹8,000. Meanwhile, XL6 will see a hike of ₹5,000 extra.

The Maruti Suzuki price hike does not seem to be a surprise for many. The price hike was expected as most of the companies are fighting the deadline for making their cars BS6 compliant.

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India has been preparing in full swing for the upcoming Auto Expo 2020. Company’s MD and CEO, Kenichi Ayukawa in a recent statement said that the company will be focusing more on bringing greener technologies for the masses.

The company is expected to bring in CNG, hybrid and electric vehicles at the auto show. However, the showstopper at the event is expected to be the Concept Futuro-E, the stylish and futuristic coupe-like offering from Maruti.

With the BS6 engines coming in and a slew of new launches, 2020 might be an exciting year for the company.
