Maruti launched the Innova Hycross-based MPV, Invicto, into the Indian market. It is the first Maruti car with a hefty price tag that goes up to ₹30 lakh. But this new MPV might make the case for spending this much. Let’s take a look!
Performance & Fuel Efficiency
Maruti Suzuki has always had the USP of fuel efficiency up its sleeve. Although both these premium MPVs are identical under the skin, Maruti’s choice of powertrains reflects the prioritization of fuel economy and premiumization. The Invicto is only available with the strong-hybrid powertrain and not the standard petrol engine offered on the Innova Hycross. It provides better fuel efficiency and the range variants are limited to the higher and top-spec versions only.

The system includes a 2.0-litre petrol engine churning out 152hp and an AC synchronous motor that makes 113hp giving a combined power of 186hp. The power goes to the front wheels through an e-CVT gearbox. It starts in electric mode by default, and the battery pack is adequate to cover a decent distance. The engine prefers a state of relaxation and comfort with gentle throttle inputs. It can cater to quick overtakes, but a heavy foot on the throttle will make the engine sound strained and the cabin noisy.
The Premium Offering
This is the first Maruti Suzuki car to have such a high price, the range starts at ₹24.79 and goes up to ₹28.42 lakhs ex-showroom. This price range pushes the leading car manufacturer in India into an altogether new price bracket with the other premium offerings. Unlike the small hatchbacks Maruti is known for, this is a fully-fledged MPV with the same dimensions as the Toyota and is offered in both 7- and 8-seater layouts.

This stands out from all the other cars in the lineup with a handsome SUV-like appeal and Nexa’s signature design integrated into the front fascia. For an extensive vehicle, it is large and easy to drive, and the 17-inch rims offer a more rounded ride than the 18-inchers in the top-spec Hycross. It absorbs bumps with a quiet suspension and provides a comfortable ride, but some road noise finds its way into the cabin.
Interior Quality
The interior is an airy space with a premium quotient, the black & champagne gold details give the cabin a distinct appeal from the Innova Hycross. The upholstery looks rich, with the leatherette and padded materials on the dash making good first impressions. It might not feature the automatic seat folding feature to access the third row, but the middle row seats slide and make enough room to reach. The seats are spacious and easy to access.

The 10.1-inch touchscreen is not that well finished, however, and some might feel like it is a downgrade from the SmartPlay Pro+ unit that is fitted in the other Maruti cars. The graphics are dull with lagged responses. It features wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay paired with a 6-speaker system. The Hycross, however, gets a 9-speaker JBL audio system.
Price & Verdict
With this price range, Maruti Suzuki is way off their usual price bracket. Invicto does check all the main boxes that premium MPV buyers look for. It has size, features, and comfort, along with impressive fuel economy. Peaceful ownership is another attribute given to the brand.
It is more affordable than the comparable versions of the Hycross, but Toyota packs in some more crucial features, such as the ADAS. Regardless of the collaboration, these brands have different images in the eyes of the consumer. The waiting periods are also a factor to consider, and if you are getting the Invicto quicker, it might be the right choice.
