Maruti Suzuki XL6 | More than 22,000 units sold in mere 8 months!

Maruti Suzuki introduced the XL6 last year which is sold via premium Nexa dealerships channel. Moreover, the company is betting the car to be a premium MUV to transport people. Maruti Suzuki XL6 shares almost everything from the brand’s conventional Ertiga with some changes on the outside and the inside. Seems the Maruti Suzuki’s mantra of introducing it in premium dealerships worked. Let us see what made the difference.

Design Cues

Interiors

Though the new Maruti Suzuki XL6 shares the same interiors it has some of the features up its sleeves.

  • For starters, the car instead of bench seats in the middle row it gets two captain seats. The seats are fairly large and accommodate anyone with comfort even for long journeys.
  • Instead of the black and beige in the Eartiga, XL6 comes with an all-black interior.
  • The Maruti Suzuki XL6 also boasts of cruise control over its other sibling.

Exterior

The exterior of the XL6 is where one can immediately distinguish between the two MUV offerings from Maruti Suzuki.

  • For one, the XL6 gets all now paint schemes which make the car physically stand out in the crowd.
  • The XL6 also gets a beefed-up cladding all around the vehicle which gives the car a rugged look. Though the cladding looks good, the 16″ alloys look puny. The car desperately demands at least 17″ alloys.
  • Besides, the new premium MUV from Maruti also gets all-LED headlights and fog lights which gives the driver better visibility at night.

Powertrain and Transmission

Like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the new XL6 also ditches the tried and tested diesel engine platform.

  • This time around, XL6 comes only with one petrol engine option. It is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine that produces 105ps of power and about 138Nm of peak torque. The car also comes with Suzuki’s SHVS technology to give that extra boost to the mileage.
  • On the transmission front, the car comes with two options. One being, the conventional 5-speed manual transmission. Though old technology, the car comes with a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This transmission is fairly lazy to respond to slight inputs.

Rivals

After the implementation of new BS6 emission norms, many of the automotive manufacturers in India have pulled the plug on many cars. As of now the only rival to the XL6 is its sibling the Ertiga. On later stages, the Mahindra Marazzo and offering from Renault might also enter into the fight.

As said earlier, Maruti Suzuki markets the car only at its premium Nexa dealerships at a starting price of about ₹9.84 Lakh (ex-showroom).
