Talk about SUV and the people in India go Yey! Talk about SUV that is manufactured by Suzuki, people go Woohooo. Well, today we are pitching two such SUV from the brand, Vitara Brezza, and S-Cross. Why comparing the two? you may ask. These two cars clash at a point in terms of price. So, without wasting any more time, let’s get started.
Engine and Transmission
First things first, Maruti Suzuki is well known for dragging an engine in a wide array of its cars. Vitara Brezza and S-Cross are one of the perfect examples of such engine sharing. For you to know, this is not new, before BS6 the 1.3 diesel engine was also shared among them. Keeping that aside, both the cars share the new 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This motor puts out 105hp of power and 138Nm of peak twist.
Engine Specifications |
|
Engine | 1.5-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine |
Transmission | 5-speed MT / 4-speed torque converter automatic |
Power | 105hp@6,000rpm |
Torque | 138Nm@4,400rpm |
The story remains the same when talking about the transmission. A total of 2 gearbox options are available when considering any of these, a 5-speed manual, and a 4-speed torque converter. A 5-speed manual is still acceptable but the 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission surely feels old-school.
Aesthetics
Exterior
Both the Maruti Suzuki cars are good looking but looks are subjective. S-Cross will surely stand out in the crowd as it is in less number than the Brezza due to its less favoured aesthetics. On the contrary, Brezza appeals to most of the Indian car buyers because it the upright stance and the squared bonnet, that makes it look more purposeful than S-Cross. Another point goes to the Brezza as it comes with various dual-tone color options. Both of the SUVs come with features like LED headlamps, LED taillamps, and usable roof rails to carry roads on trips.
Interior
Stepping inside the cabins of both the cars, it is the S-cross that looks and feels premium over the Brezza. Thanks to the better fit and finish, and superior materials used on the dash. Even the dash looks better on the S-Cross as it gets soft-touch material at frequent touchpoints.
- Talking about the infotainment system, it is common in both the cars and comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
- The sound system is not of audiophile quality but is decent and will please your ears on the go.
- Both get steering mounted controls and cruise control.
S-Cross on the top ‘Alpha’ variant gets white ambient light in the front footwells whereas the Brezza gets changeable mood lighting for the instrument cluster.
Now the question arises, Is S-Cross a worthy upgrade?
Based solely on aesthetics, Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the one people would go for. But when it is the interior, S-Cross has an edge over the Brezza in terms of quality.
- Talking about safety, both of the cars come with dual airbags, ABS and EBD with BA and hill hold control (Automatic only).
- Taking about the SHVS, Maruti Suzuki Brezza gives an option to opt for the variant without the mild-hybrid tech, whereas even the base variant for the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross comes with it. Well, the mild hybrid will help extract more mileage from this petrol motor.

Hey Mohammed,
As Ciaz and Brezza share the exact same engine and transmission, it depends upon your use of the vehicle. If it is the city you are driving with a few unpaved roads, Ciaz can be a good choice, Ciaz offers better comfort in the city. But if it is the highway and a bit more of offroading, Brezza can help with its higher ground clearance.
